Am I correct in that if you text some, but not a lot (>0, < 200/mo.) then your fees at least double? Obnoxious, for infrequent texters like myself. (Will certainly give more incentive to move to Verizon when my contract ends.)

IMHO, despite your disclaimer, I still think your post is racist because it's blacks and hispanics who are skewing the statistics, rather than the other way round. There's an assumed perspective -- the white one -- as the default, or prop

To this I would add: if you want to be a good musician, generally, learning piano is very helpful. You'll absorb a lot of music theory (harmony) by osmosis. I found that quite helpful in my music theory and ear training courses in college.

I believe there have been psych studies to this effect. Asked whether you'd rather make 110k when everyone else is making 80k, vs. 140k when everyone else is making 200k -- assuming prices remain constant, which is economically dubious, of

I think it might depend on whether you're aiming for a career in academia, where there's a certain amount of (de facto, not necessarily conscious) age discrimination. If not, I doubt it matters, but either way, 2 yrs seems fairly trivial. I

This is so cool, it makes me salivate a little. The author said it took 4-5 days for the construction and another 4 or so for the software. Anyone know how long it takes for someone without much electronics background? I have a vision of a

The 30 pounds is over a total period of 1 year, actually. In the first couple of months I lost around 3-4 lbs/month, without exercising.

I didn't go into a lot of detail in my original comment, but basically before going low carb a) I was doing a low fat, almost vegetarian diet, b) I was always hungry, c) I was losing weight, but very slowly. When I went low carb, a) I stopp

What I find odd about the level of debate on this topic is that Taubes' thesis is easily tested empirically. Give up grains & carbs for a couple of months and see what happens. If, like me, you lose 30 pounds and lower your cholesterol

Low carb skeptics often raise this point, but I'd like note that it can be misleading to consider a single diet variable in isolation. The Japanese smoke more than we do, and yet have less heart disease. Hence, smoking reduces the risk of h

As someone who's been on a low carb, no-grain diet (mostly) over the past year, this is gratifying to read. In that time I lost (with little effort) about 30 pounds, and while I find the diet occasionally difficult to maintain (mostly due t

Yes, this is precisely what I thought. I have a gmail label, "bacon," for such cases. I filter bacon by applying the label and then skipping the inbox (archiving). So, for example, my Priceline junk mail doesn't appear in my inbox, but it's

Ah, that's an interesting point. And not just 4chan. Imagine if someone posts your license # along with some rant about how you were a jerk to Reddit or Digg. Let the mass flagging begin! This already happens with polls, or yelp or whatnot.

I take it a lot of people are going to be sitting with their mouse poised over the submit button as 9am rolls around, and if you're lucky, you'll get the 100$? Surely there's a better way to handle this; it's sort of an annoying gamble, imh

I showed this article to my girlfriend, who is a lawyer, and her response, to paraphrase, was 1) it sounds like the guy got lucky and ran into some crappy lawyers, 2) if someone treated her like that she'd give away hours just to fight him

Just downloaded and tried it out. I like it, it works well with our subversion repository here at work. One suggestion would be a menu option to allow the user to highlight a page on request (with a chosen syntax), if, for example, you had

I think this is a reference to Plato's Theory of Forms, in which every object we see partakes of some idealized (static, eternal, and real) form (ie, is an instantiation of a class). Except... in Plato's theory, everything is a somewhat cor

Yes, your point essentially mirrors Hume's famous is/ought gap, under which statements about what "ought" to be cannot be derived from statements about what is (factual statements.) This still poses some serious philosophical questions. See

The flipside, imho, is that it's simply less of a big deal to be late, precisely because technology makes it less problematic. 20 years ago, if someone was late for, say, a dinner date, you'd be faced with the unpleasant choice of having to
