I think the comment I replied to was referring to normal powerlines for households. Individual solar+batteries is not going to replace high voltage lines.

Browsers still accept the response of the DNS servers. No firewalls or host files needed for my suggestion.

In addition to this very good advise try setting all devices up with DNS block lists, its most easily done by using nextdns.io or cloudflare safebrowsing DNS. It will filter out some of the malware and scams.

I think its hard to predict given the current quality of voice assistants. I dont think we can answer that until a high quality assistant is availble.

UK energy prices must be insane. I am from Denmark where energy is pretty expensive and even if I did all my charging on superchargers it would still be cheaper than gas (and waayyyy cheaper with home charging). It cost at the most expensiv

I can think of one good case for not allowing sideloading of unverified apps. If iOS only allows apple approved apps a employer/school cannot force me to install a intrusive monitoring app on a iphone/ipad.

Microsoft had more of a monopoly at that time than apple have now. The Mac and other platforms at that time was tiny, its not like today where its more of a duopoly with iOS and android.
