Crazy how in the midst of this they're still concerned with "gender equality." Why would we put effort into and deal with the social risk (which is more extreme now too) of trying to date or get married when we're equal

Yeah, keeping me in the flow when I hit one of those silly tasks my brain just randomly says "no let's do something else" to has been the main productivity improving feature of LLMs.

>Tell half the population the future doesn't include them >Get surprised and angry when they stop cooperating with your vision of the future You might complain that we voted for Trump but you asked for him.

Language models with a loop absolutely aren't Turing complete. Assuming the model can even follow your instructions the output is probabilistic so in the limit you can guarantee failure. In reality though there are lots of instructions

Many of us are alone and not lonely and I think most men who feel "lonely" are lying to themselves about what socialization really is.

I'd be far more concerned about people being unable or unwilling to collaborate with each other than I would be with AI.

I'm kind of glad LLMs are eating search engines. Hopefully we'll go back to web pages focusing on communicating real information and get rid of all the trackers and ads.

I've tried to explain this to people before. Polymarket's contracts aren't purely poles for people's predictions, some people just want to be long volatility for any number of reasons. The recent doge tax refund is a goo

That's pretty interesting. Last year I messed with hooking language models up to inform 6/zmachines (both RL training and inference and even generating games) and have noticed most are awful at navigating and reasoning about gra

Really incredible how each new version of Windows somehow manages to be a regression from the last version while remaining a usable and popular operating system.

Being indexed in search engines has zero benefit? Also robots.txt is a suggestion but hashcash is enforced server side. I agree it's a tragedy people have started to completely ignore it but you can't ignore server side behavior.

Formalizing it doesn't change that it's being used. If it doesn't work it shouldn't be done, if it does it should be formalized.

To put it in the language of "programming as theory building" AI produced artifacts are stillborn. No one had or has the theory in their mind that corresponds to them. A software developer could read the output and develop this bu

I don't know why everyone feels like they have a right to live in the US. I don't have a right to live in India, China, or Mexico. It's actually much harder to immigrate to those places than the US from what I hear. I know it

It would be nice if this could get standardized http headers so bots could still use sites but they effectively pay for use. That seems like the best of all possible worlds to me, the whole point of HTML is that robots can read it, otherwis

Language models should all converge to something that's more or less identical. They're commodities. The hype bubble might mean they're commodities with a negative price for a little while.

There are similar problems with this and tourism. Except tourists who don't understand your culture tend to leave relatively quickly and don't get to vote in your elections.

Talking about schools at a state level seems really silly. I know in the state I live in there's an incredible variance in quality between counties and cities that probably mostly washes out the interstate differences. Most important t

That's interesting. 60hz TVs always gave me headaches but my 75 hz computer monitor didn't. I think it was actually the interlacing and not the refresh rate that did it.

I know outsiders view the US this way but there are many people (about half the population) for which this is our only place and don't necessarily want it to be strip mined for that. If you can understand this (and I know understandi

I saw things beginning to rapidly deteriorate years ago, checked out, and focused on being able to live on very little. I've got land, 10-20 years worth of savings, and a small shack. I think I'm just going to monetize side projec
