Crushing people with over regulation costs lives too. It's just much quieter and harder to measure.

I'd say the same thing about mobile robots, especially since ADA means most of the public environment should be relatively accessible.

It's so odd they don't publish the source. You'd think an organization like this which at least claims to have strong opinions about how sd card formatting should work would want to actually communicate what those opinions ar

People often say Virginia has a lot of good universities and I always thought they were overstating it. Maybe they're right. Both the University I attended and the ones near my home town proctored tests for the public. I actually used

If you're worried about kids being abused in the UK you have way bigger issues to deal with than porn on the web man. In fact screwing around with the web this way is likely to make those other issues much harder to solve.

Should that be surprising? Bourgeoisie != elite. Elite is a club, Bourgeoisie (at least in the US) is an attitude.

I remember reading posts a decade or two ago on either Linode's forums or some other place like LinuxQuestions in broken English about tunneling through firewalls with ssh from I assume Chinese people. I've started seeing posts li

We're not adapted to intercontinental sailing either but we overcame that. Being realistic is one thing but completely giving up on pushing out the frontier of our capabilities is shameful IMO. Literally mailing it in isn't a subs

Trash the university and bring back pubs. The problem is that they got too focused on credentials and money instead of socializing and learning.

The way you do online exams is by contracting other universities proctored test centers and making students attend the nearest one on exam day. There's a whole system for this, it already works very well if people actually wanted to ma

I've seen program source code with form feeds (U+000C) in it. Apparently Emacs has built in support for using them for navigation so adjacent things occasionally contain them.

The form feed character (U+000C) should probably have been included in useful controls. That's used in a fair amount of program source code.

I really wonder how much they actually care about ad blockers. My understanding is that most people actually watch youtube on smart TVs and then smart phones. It may very well make sense for them to leave ad blockers alone and to keep yout

It's really the combining characters that are the problem. That changed it from a character set to a DSL for describing characters.

This kind of software is really unacceptable in consumer electronics but with weapons it entirely defeats the point of the thing. It's surprising any were sold outside the US at all.

Yeah bikes and pedestrians can mix as long as speeds don't. Mixed use paths (like the W&OD in Reston VA) really need something like a 5 mph speed limit.

I think one of the people who got closest to that was Sam Zeloof. He kind of had everything going: extremely clever and motivated, cooperation with his parents (who also worked in the industry), access to equipment. Kind of hard to improve

Sure. What that looks like is always using ssh to access git and things like github going away. I think most of us can agree that's probably not good. For the tools non-technical people use it's probably far worse, pretty much the

This isn't really about AI. This is a couple corporations being bad netizens and abusing infrastructure. The same incentives to do this already existed for search engine operators.

No one seriously tries to write operating systems or large components of operating systems in python, it's very much a "hacking" language.
