A great read. Even today in the indie game developer scene there's a huge range of opinion about what constitutes borrowing, copying, stealing, ripping, and grifting.

Well, it's a bookmark ...I guess. One that can be used to select a book from a list and set a page number. But, yeah. I just don't see the need for it.

(author) thanks for posting. I'm half way through writing a shmup using these apps. 90% of it was done on my iPhone whilst laying in bed.

They have a database of books but it's limited. This is the Achilles heel that they don't really mention.

But it only needs to be done once on eject. If you clean periodically the files will return in between.

I'd guess the founders want to keep it because of a sense of pride/attachment.

It's phrased in a way that indicates the Humane brand and company is not part of the deal? Just assets (patents, software, staff) but not the name or brand? I would not be surprised if it rose from the ashes at some point.

Originally half-half, then later fully software. I don't know all problematic games but the ones I do know of had some hard coded expectations for the hardware that the emulator didn't fulfill. Even going from original PS2 to slim

Safari is quite memory efficient and only stores metadata for inactive tabs, mostly the URL. I currently have 262 tabs in a single Safari window. Memory usage nothing or of the ordinary, a small fraction of my total.

I built a modern equivalent of an old classic Macintosh app—Stapler—and the file size is roughly the same if you take unty account the fact my new app contains both Intel and Apple silicon architectures. https://news.ycombinator.

I see your point, but… > There’s just no reason to waste time tuning software for optimal efficiency if the users hardware is powerful enough they’d never even notice. …but users do notice. They notice that their browser is slow, 8GB RAM
