There is a trickle-down effect, but it's not nearly as strong as some people think. You can think of progressive taxes as a form of insurance policy on the misallocation of resources by wealthy people. Wealthy people may on average make bet

Yes, someone's wealth would be affected. I have no idea what you mean by that question. I'm an economist, and it really aggravates me to hear such misunderstanding of the profession. Try replacing "economics" and "economist" with "medicine"

Why not? If I grow some wheat on a farm, don't I get to take credit for photosynthesis and perhaps the nearby river? How is creating a company any different from growing plants?

If the company you work for provides office space, equipment, and sets your hours, you may be able to force them to pay for half your social security tax, etc. It's a fuzzy line between employee and contractor.

To increase speed, you must decrease computation and memory access. The less computation and memory access possible, the smaller the variety of strategies possible. In regular timescales, the strategy space is much larger than the number of

Actually, I found that Craigslist was the best resource for apartment hunting in NYC. None of the other sites (with better UI) had the same quality of listings. By quality, I mean good deals.

Yeah, it's all a question of if you have the time, resources, and most importantly a good sample. Testing 41 shades only sounds bad because we typically have far too many design variables relative to the population of users. In those cases,

It's a standard problem for all engineers -- being forced to interact with managers instead of users.

A mixed portfolio can provide both a solid annual income and a hedge against inflation. $6M well-invested in your 20s means you don't have to worry about money again.

Perhaps. Or maybe you should come here and see how unwell most of the projects are? I think it's very easy for the engineers to think they did a good job while the end-users do not. The deals keep flowing because of the middle-men managers

I pay my landlord in cash. He doesn't accept checks. Though I suppose AirBnB does force you to accept credit card and that's a bit harder to hide.
