In fact, searching for x such that 1+4 x 10^(Ceiling[Log10[x]])-4x^2 is a perfect square gives you tons of integers that make up half of a pair that has this property. 123288,328768 is my favorite pair, for arbitrary reasons.

Actually, touchscreens are more or less the ideal surface to get the fingerprints from - a smooth glass object frequently touched. I just took my phone out of my pocket and found three very clear prints... Just look at 00:37 in the video th

That exact technique? Not in the least - it relies on indium/gallium/tin/whatever alloys that are liquid at room temperature and immediately form thick oxide skins on contact with air. Even when solidified, they'll have

> Protocols are not programming languages. They don't need flexible syntax. Or, as the langsec crowd claims, protocols don't need flexible syntax, lest they actually become programming languages.

That is basically my experience with them as well. I've assembled or performed significant maintenance on every printer model they've put out, except maybe the replicator 1, and I've never been impressed. Their extruders are

If an acqhire, it's not for the engineering team. As addressed above, it's more likely for the brand recognition - given how finely tuned their propaganda machine is, they may be worth it.

I actually have access to such a printer - but it's massive and can't really print objects smaller than a few inches. We've tried scaling the extruder down, but it seems that pellet/flake extruders just don't have the control and homogeneit

Is it Sorensen or Sorenson? The article keeps switching between the two forms... As a Sorensen, I will attest that there is a big difference.

Is anyone else unable to access the article? I'm getting 404s - although this exact url is linked from the front page. It's techcrunch, so this must be a sign of interesting politic.

Your assumption has already really come to pass - my school's printer club is building >30 of them with a $250 price point. Assembly/labor cost should turn out to be trivial, add 25% handling cost, add another 25% profit margin, and you

How is this "Scheme" in any sense of the word? When I look at that code, I see an implementation of something that compiles simple s-exps containing basic arithmetic to ruby byte-code - that sorta misses...everything... that makes Scheme Sc

This article is really very wrong about conventional solar cell manufacture - especially the "Almost every solar panel..." paragraph. Here's a decent resource on standard manufacturing technology: http://pveducation.org/pvcdrom

I got to hold it last weekend! Surprisingly light - felt around 5 kg. Sadly it doesn't have a trigger in the slot you'd expect it to have one, just a (safely covered) switch. Pretty cool to actually see it after months of noticing parts Rob

Also, your experimentation with manually defined satisfy vs the char combinator was interesting - I wouldn't have expected satisfy to be any faster, but it definitely is. The internal definition of char is "char c = satisfy (== c) <?

Ah, attoparsec is such a nice package! Some minor quibbles: Why aren't you using the various combinators from Control.Applicative to build your parsers? Could your log files possibly contain non-ascii characters? In that case, use the attop

Funny thing. I'm currently building one right now - disturbingly close to your product idea. It's currently a "generalized feed consumer" that presents a user with "stream of [de-duplicated] links to consume..." I'm just starting to use it
