Something somewhat related: I think more Cloud providers need to start doing Docker-functions. It’s always going to be a waiting game for runtimes and upgrades. Docker is portable and can run just about anything, so why not support that? h

Have you seen https://docs.browserless.io/docs/pdf.html ? It’s in a docker image too if that’s all you need.

Our small instance ($30/month) is roughly similar to their $44.38 instance on App Engine. If you were to run a full 10 concurrent sessions constantly, which a small browserless instance can max-out at, this would cost roughly $427 a mo

If Google cloud ain’t your jam then checkout browserless ( https://browserless.io/ ). It can be considerably cheaper under certain situations, and we’ve been up and running for almost a year. Happy to answer questions if anyo

Just wanted to chime in and say thanks for the discussion here. One of my favorite parts of Hacker News is reading through comments and challenging beliefs I've held, and absorbing new ones. Lots for me to think about, and hopefully th

Thanks for the feedback, this is something that has been brought up a few times, via folks from other backgrounds and positions. I'm still trying to think of the best way to tackle this sort of "personalization", but will kee

I think it still bears repeating, mostly because different styles of writing impact people differently (even if it's just the same core-content). It also helps _me_ solidify what I'm feeling. But I agree with you on the next phase

:) This is something I've been thinking about as well. I'll have to write up something more details and "when not to" as it's just as hard to pin down as "when you should." Thanks for chiming in!

It took me at least several weeks to get an idea of what the legal landscape even looks like, and what/whom I needed to engage. Definitely could be easier, and in its own way it is a gate-keeping mechanism I feel.

Definitely. Even the term "startup" is overloaded. Simpler terminology, like you mentioned, would go a long way to make newcomers feel more welcome. Thanks for the kind words!

It's funny cause I've heard it so many times, but it never really sank in. I always assumed folks were just saying that, but it's super-hard to cope with. I lay awake at night from glee and border-line depression because of i

That's really fascinating to me. Optimizing for an acquisition might also come with a nice bi-product of keeping the business , itself, more self-sustaining. I'll have to give this book a read, thanks for the suggestion!

When I started browserless.io, I was having a heck of a time getting Chrome running properly in Docker. After about 1 month of hit-n-miss `docker build`'s (which was taking ~15 minutes each time due to the amount of deps and lack of la

The reason I baked dumb-init into the image was in order to offer better dev UX (since I'm assuming some/lots/most folks out there will just `docker run` without much context on what's going on). I actually like specifyi

Are you using something like dumb-init or equivalent? That's a definite requirement as _not_ having it results in zombie processes hanging around (which do retain some memory footprint). Read more about that here: https://gi

I've definitely noticed this as well and have been working on a "auto-scale" feature as well (to tone-down concurrency when under load). It's not an easy task, but you can see my first pass here: https://githu
