Plastic alternatives are not considered because they are more expensive for companies and less customizable, not because they would create more emissions. Companies would do cost-cutting on product wrapping way before the emissions become a

If you want to become rich, take advantage of what comes for free and sell it. For this guy, it was welfare and free electricity. For others, it is healthy soil, or rich natural resources.

Your comparison is flawed and oversimplistic. You might as well consider the US as a former British colony and consider that British colonialism faired quite well.

If bottles moved to glass, many companies will quickly switch to returnable bottles, which will increase incentives to use standard bottle sizes, which in turn may reduce the distance that bottles travel, etc. It's also likely that pri

I'm not assuming linear adoption. I explicitly said that even if adoption was FOUR TIMES faster than now, the amount of renewable energy would barely reach the same amount of primary energy as we use now by 2050. This is a optimistic

Your source is counting the share of electricity generation. My source[0] is counting the share of primary energy; including fuel, heating, etc. I believe the latter is more relevant for the current discussion (CO2 emissions and cars). Elec

Solar power is 1.68% of the USA's primary energy mix in 2021. Wind is 3.89%, about 2.5% more than a decade ago, and the trend is not accelerating that fast. It is not even 3 decades to 2050, which is the USA's target date for ne

Mandatory reminder that hydrogen as fuel for cars is an incredible waste of primary energy and will be for a long time. A petrol car engine is inefficient due to constraints (small + no cooling source other than air). An electric engine + b

No, this is the result of the laziness of social networks to look for automated solutions to solve at-scale (read: at the lowest cost) problems of their own making. More generally this is the result of giving free rein on global discourse t

Maybe give it up, the energy savings associated with replacing it with a LCD/LED TV will quickly add up, environmentally and economically. Depends on how much TV you're watching though.

Crypto has a far lower ratio on utility/speculation than other wasteful computations. Deep learning is changing the world in many visible ways (with a whole lot of speculation regardless).
