The Q605 is a great machine, and probably the best choice for a lot of uses back then. You could easily add an external CD-ROM drive, hard drives, Zip drive, etc. Only real downsides are the lack of an FPU (although you could upgrade to a f

SDL didn't use Mercurial until 2010. They used Subversion from 2006-2010 [1], and CVS before that [2]. A project on its 4th version control system! [1]: http://forums.libsdl.org/viewtopic.php?t=6047 [2]: https:/&

MIPS as well. SGI announced the Itanium switch and dialed back MIPS investment in 1998, but Itanium wasn't really usable until Itanium 2 in ~2003.

Wine on macOS can already use MoltenVK to expose Vulkan to Windows apps, CrossOver uses this with DXVK to support D3D11 games.

A 64-bit-only Wine builds and works normally on Catalina and Big Sur. 32-bit support exists in CrossOver’s wine but is too much of a messy hack to merge upstream. There’s hope that an upstreamable solution will be found in the future though

I believe Xcode 12 can only target back to 10.9. (Xcode throws an error when you try to go older, I think the command-line tools can still go back farther though)

To Microsoft, ARM64 is a hobby. Windows 10 ARM64 laptops went on sale in February 2018, but Microsoft didn't release an official toolchain with ARM64 support (VS 15.9) until November 2018! Even an "early preview" didn't

Maybe this isn’t what you mean, but Microsoft shipping OpenSSH client/server in W10 is totally separate from WSL. (It’s really helpful though!)

The 601 had support for some POWER instructions that weren’t part of the PPC ISA and weren’t supported by later chips, I know Apple’s developer notes for these machines mentioned that you had to avoid those.

That’s bizarre, I have no idea why anyone would recommend HFS+ for that. It’s a Linux system running Netatalk, which uses normal POSIX file I/O. ext4 is a far better choice. Cargo-cult HOWTOs is the only explanation I can think of.
