I like the approach but prefer it more consequent: every tooling breaks over time, if not statically linked. Even better: no tooling at all. Just files. Means HTML then. And self-contained e.g. per year. So you don't need to touch old

please consider indieweb.org/POSSE to not loose your digital home, when huge organisations cancel tiny ones. The big ones just cannot care about all, even if they really wanted. They had to be both onmiscient and omnipotent.

I use that heavily at https://demo.mro.name/shaarligo . The provider of the feed could/should just ship it alongside. P.S.: I prefer atom/RFC4287 for being well-defined and with e.g. sane dates.

phantastic. Design is not how something looks, it is how it works. (said Steve Jobs) Do you folks know the entertaining talk http://idlewords.com/talks/website_obesity.htm ?

ceterum censeo – in extremo, there's a single provider that won't let you down (but maybe messes up). So if you really care about that, you need to host yourself. At least a mirror. Ideally do indieweb.org/POSSE.

If you join a hosted instance, please pay for it. Otherwise you remain a supplicant. If you host an instance, please take money because it as it has value.

lol, 'your dream job at Facebook' to me would be pulling the plug and stopping it from earning money that doesn't come from benefitting humans. Stopped reading here.

can't you just push elsewhere, be it a self-hosted location or the one of a reliable 3rd party and tell Microsoft to go f§ck themselves? I mean, what do you need github for to integrate and deploy?

I wonder what the purpose of such tools is. Archiving? Safe storage? Offering stock-photos for sale? Or just dropping an uncurated pile images into the interwebs? When publising curated photo-sets myself (<1k pics per feed), I use a stat

Impressive list of trackers on that webpage. All the usual suspects present. Not that the author wouldn't know. Author says "… they know you are reading them. …". Yes, the article is published in a way that tells them so.

indeed! My take on self-hosted services (not infrasructure, though) is layperson-friendlyness. See https://mro.name/ShaarliGo#install--update or the 5min talk I did a while ago: https://txt.mro.name/34c3 (t

I wish, I could upvote multiple times. 3rd party storage is a thing that keeps you locked in in loooong terms. Good just for the vendor and jumpstart, short-term users.
