For other interested HNers who visit the comments before clicking on links, what you're missing by not visiting this site is: a) a bootstrap splash page which asks for a title b) a HTML/CSS/JS dump of the NYT snowfall article [1] with the t

I really like how the code + images enhance the post, but I think this model is a little simplistic for how analytical minds actually cross roads. The post assumes that my discomfort level is a constant, but in reality I become more comfort

You're right: it is meant to be tinkered with! Reading this [0] was one of the most encouraging pieces of documentation I've read in a long time: "Read the source. Flask’s code is written to be read; it’s documentation published so you can

If neither silence nor the truth are options, the third best approach is to wait until there is a larger story in the industry that you can hide behind. Perhaps that was what EA was attempting, but unfortunately no larger scandals have occu

And, since there seems to be interest in these notes, here are my paraphrased notes from the second half on the interview (once again, only including the parts I found especially thought-provoking): - Systematic crime/injustice requires a p

This is incredibly fascinating. If you are trying to figure out whether this is worth a read or not, I don't think you'll be disappointed spending an hour or two following along through the interview. For those of you that are tight on time

Perhaps they did filter messages on the server as well. The client side word-list could be used for display purposes only, so if the user typed a censored word, the client could update the display with that word redacted and without waiting

Exactly. Per Wikipedia it is about 12 deaths per 100k on average from the period of 2004-2012. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_motor_vehicle_deaths_...

If you liked reading this post, I highly recommend Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse Five. One of my favorite quotes, "So it goes," is repeated often throughout the book, and though it usually refers to tragic circumstances, it too hints that life

And there's definitely a lot of great reading material there. This earlier piece has a great exposition, though it is on the long side: http://www.popehat.com/2013/03/06/what-prenda-law-is-facing-... . I do recommend reading it—it is just

This post was enthralling, but could have used some context. Here's a quick background I've picked up from a brief read-through of Ars Technica's extensive coverage [1]: - Prenda Law is a law firm that filed many lawsuits against individual

Slightly amusing, but this parody of The Atlantic's sponsored Scientology debacle doesn't really add much to the conversation. The one thing it parodies correctly is "Hey look, we too can publish things that aren't up to our normal editoria
