Not even the research bears that out.

It's a hell of a lot more complex than that. A developer with a short deadline is going to design things differently than one with a longer deadline. That superior design can often result in better long term maintenance. There's

This is why I don't trust TDD proponents. I'm not against TDD itself, or unit testing as a whole, but I'm also not 20 y/o college kid. There is absolutely no way the increase in workload of TDD doesn't have a cost

The analogy still holds. If I hand you a blueprint for a skyscraper and I realize there is no lock specified for the front doors. Does that mean it's a lockless skyscraper or I'm speaking to a jackass who forgot a critical functi

It's an arbitrary line. Too many people come up with an opinion and then cast about for a way to make it seem valid.

you're drawing an arbitrary line, that was the point. We specialize and abstract for a reason. No one understands everything about everything surrounded their code, and that includes other software. Don't tell me you've per

It isn't the idea of a timing attack I take issue with. I can understand how that could be possible. I don't understand why purposefully having everything related to cryptography taking a predetermined time doesn't solve it.

You haven't explained why it doesn't solve the problem. My experience has been if I can't understand it, it's because it's bullshit. So why not take another crack at explaining why that wouldn't solve the prob

Why is it people can't ever respond to sanity, but instead assume idiocy? You measure page faults in terms of milliseconds, I was not suggesting you even out the cryptographic timings to the tune of milliseconds, especially when you co

why write unit tests when we don't understand the microcode in the CPU? We can't have "tested" it because we don't understand said microcode. Or wait... no, maybe your characterization is wrong. Yeah... that's
