(Pedant warning) I think you may be abusing Big-O notation a little here since, technically O(10) is equivalent to O(1000)—and both are O(1).

I think you are making the author's point for him. A game that requires a virtual joypad is not a game that is well designed for a phone. It's using a hammer to put in a screw. There are plenty of iPhone games that do not use the virtual bu

I was writing it mathematically as I thought you would appreciate how your intuitive grasp of what n-dimensions is described mathematically. The terminology (gibberish) I used is nothing more than a convenient but very precise shorthand for

The way you think of it is precisely the mathematical way of thinking about n-dimensions. Mathematically, an n-dimensional space is R^n, that is, the cross product of the real numbers (R) with itself n times. Each copy of R lets you specify

I think this is precisely the reason. +Name is already used as a form of reference in Google+ analogously to @handle in Twitter.

I'm guessing he had emacs open in a "Cathode": http://www.secretgeometry.com/apps/cathode/ session. The extra warping at the end of the video can be achieved by fiddling with the "distress" parameters in Cathode's preferences.

Mitchell's ML book is showing its age a bit now. You may want to consider adding Bishop's _Pattern Recognition and Machine Learning_: http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/um/people/cmbishop/prml/

How does this differ from http://futureme.org ? I used that service in the past to send myself a message from me pre-PhD-completion self to my post-PhD-completion self to ask how it was. Although it was basically procrastination at the ti

I don't know how Sedenions fit into the picture but "Hurwitz's theorem": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurwitz%27s_theorem_(normed_div... may be one explanation as to why there are essentially only 1,2,4, and 8 dimensional numbers.

Maybe I missed something but I don't understand this criticism. The author states that 'The number of hits for each year was divided by the number of hits for "machine learning".' Wouldn't that control for the inflation of data in exactly t

What's worse is that the papers ACM charge for via their Portal site are often papers you can get (legally) for free elsewhere. For example, there is an ACM Portal page ( http://portal.acm.org/citation.cfm?id=1553489 ) for a paper I wrote

Dilettante - from the Italian "to delight". I think that's fair. Hofstadter doesn't make any claims to being an expert in any of the areas he discusses (at least not in 1979). I think of GEB as an extremely idiosyncratic but well written pi
