It's a petition which Parliament is bound to consider, having passed the magic 100,000-signature threshold. Petitions like this are usually a waste of time for everyone concerned, but the UK's record on digital rights is pretty di

Due to limited memory, I think most compression algos have a window of "stuff they've seen recently" which they use to detect duplicates. If the duplicate is of something too far back, it's fallen out of the window and b

Fair point, although this example is ephemeral by necessity rather than by design. If you could experience those shows again whenever you felt like it, maybe via some improved VR setup, and share them with your friends/kids/postma

It'd be a sadder world if modern audiences could no longer enjoy Homer, or Shakespeare, or P.G. Wodehouse, or Firefly . It'd be a poorer world if current art could no longer build on or remix older art. Does this really need an a

Marvellous; I'd never seen this. The format and humour remind me very strongly of the Bird & Fortune (aka The Long Johns) skits here in the UK: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=bird+%26+fortun...

It's good to see experiments along these lines. I really like Wikipedia's recent-ish rich tooltips on link mouseover, and the HTML <summary>/<details> elements deserve to be more widely known. From the demo it loo

Has anyone ever seriously suggested that it isn't OK to take a walk without headphones? I like walking. I walk a lot. I've never in my life worn headphones while doing so.
