We had our loft converted last year, and after watching the builders construct the partitioning walls, I think I would probably manage that. We also had to have some walls removed and re-built and made the house too dusty for the kids to b

We do have some conduit in place to run cables. One running up to a wall-mounted TV, and another running Ethernet up in to the loft. I don't mind the one under the TV, but I wouldn't like to use it for everything.

I always end up green with envy that people seem to have pre-existing conduits in their walls for running new cables. There's no way, in my old house, of doing this without some invasive smashing in to walls.

Did Apple and Microsoft know exactly what the PC was for in its early days? They certainly had their own ideas for it, but it was down to the rest of the world to decide that, ultimately.

I don't experience it personally. Though I believe there can be a tendency for people to look down on northerners, the closer you get to London. Don't worry about it! I only meant it as tongue-in-cheek response and didn't

Yes! Ctrl+Shift+B is probably my most used keystroke and it's not fluid at all with Lenovo's default Fn placement.

Touching on Scottish, but Northumbrian. I'm not that "broad" really, though.

I guess we should count ourselves lucky that once MPs are done selecting their next vacuous blowhard, it won't go to the smooth-brained party members who were responsible for the final vote to install Truss.

shairport-sync also has the option to output to FIFO/stdout, which I couldn't see details of in this Open AirPlay 2 implementation. Indispensable for tying in to SnapCast!

What are you using for network streaming? SnapCast is great for that - there's a delay, but only about .5s. On the home network, that is.

They both look like they're in sync, but at the top of git.videolan.org shows a notice saying they're moving their projects over to GitLab. The list of projects being moved over doesn't include FFmpeg, so I guess ultimate ow

I tried to use Ping in home assistant for basic "is home" presence detection. It wasn't very reliable since the phones' wi-fi connections would drop in prolonged sleep states.

I loved the slight glimpse you get of it on It Might Get Loud . Jimmy Page taking about When The Levee Breaks in the house where IV was recorded.

I watched a YouTube video[0] demonstrating this recently. It was definitely surprising to me and is just something that is done without thought. [0] https://youtu.be/9cNmUNHSBac

I believe Iris can talk to the Snap server directly for volume control, when you've configured it in the UI.

Always had problems with choppiness with shairport-sync. Currently running MPD which feeds in to Snapcast for sending audio to clients.

Very true; and even if Omicron turns out to be less dangerous than previous variants, it's a case of when, not if, a deadlier variant will emerge from a poorly-vaccinated population.

I think their best would be educated guesses without actually seeing how it behaves in the wild. Though with them simply saying it's a VoC with a high number of mutations has led the media to catastrophise in their reporting.

You could, but you wouldn't be able to see through it. You would also need a bigger battery to power it.
