Why did that almighty watchmaker create anti matter in the first place that anihilates the normal matter? They could have just created the normal matter and zero anti matter. Why carefully fine tune these number? All of these situations are

Your assessment is spot on, but for whatever reason it's extremely popular with amateur physicists. The HN crowd likes it a lot, too. Almost every thread about dark matter has at least one comment that goes like "I'm not a ph

And then what? The end goal of phishing is either that the victim enters credentials or downloads a malicious file. Neither of which would be prevented by your scheme (even anti virus products are imperfect). Phishing with the goal of explo

The other day, I needed Claude Code to write some code for me. It involved messing with the TPM of a virtual machine. For that, it was supposed to create a directory called `tpm_dir`. It constantly got it wrong and wrote `tmp_dir` instead a

A meticulous coder probably wouldn't have typed out 40 URLs just because they want to move them from one file to another. They would copy-past them and run some sed-like commands. You could instruct an LLM agent to do something similar

I don't think we should be calling the users idiots when we failed to make our systems secure by design. If a simple act like plugging in a thumb drive by a well-meaning user undermines the security of an entire operation, then why do

Your question applies to me. I can only speak for myself, but I wanted to be able to call myself a proper researcher at least once, and I got the PhD because I was curious about the subject. At the same time it disillusioned me about the fi

I can't, but the equation itself doesn't to that. The assumptions are up to the reader to make. That's why I think that the equation isn't particularly useful.

Thanks, I read that part before I shared it. It's pretty clear to me, these are pretty well defined quantities, just hard to measure. What is unclear is perhaps the definition of life. But at no point does it assume a planet must be in

PGP will never ever see mass adoption. It's too complicated and nothing will fix that. If chat control succeeds, a handful of nerds might be able to protect their comms, but mass encryption as we have it today will be dead. I like how

But how do we then protect our messages to less tech savvy people? Encryption must be effortless and usable by the masses, or it will be almost pointless.
