Watch out if you're looking to read mostly PDFs. I'm in your position, and I found the Nook to be a beautiful device that was completely unsuitable; since the device can't reflow or scale fonts on PDFs, the screen just turned out to be too

I agree -- I sacrificed clarity for flippancy. I meant to imply that the idea that police videos are sacrosanct because they have chain of custody is laughable. The police are the parties with the greatest motive to doctor the videos, and

Quick meta question. Is this OK? I think a thread like this pointing to a Wikipedia article is kind of lousy, for three reasons: - We have a huge P!=NP thread on the front page. If people need a primer or want to discuss the problem, sho

Blizzard has announced that they are going to have a system where map creators can charge for particular maps, and Blizzard will take a big cut.

I would sympathize if this was Blizzard's first networked RTS with a modding community, but it's hard to understand why they would decide to throw away ten years of aforementioned incremental improvements to SC:BW and WC3's community featur

Three separate points: - The 25MB file size limit is absurd and could cause real harm. I can't imagine any rationale at all for this. Storage is so cheap. There's also an arbitrary limit of 5 maps at a time per author, which is hilarious

Yes, that's definitely what I mean to say. In my short lifetime, hundreds of thousands of people, many of them civilians, have died in Iraq. Tens of thousands, many being civilians, have died in Afghanistan; we continue to kill several civ

OK, then propose another way. If there's a gate, there's a gatekeeper. There is no doubt in my mind that I would rather have Julian Assange and the Wikileaks staff be that gatekeeper than the U.S. government and military, who have a track
