The way the author writes, it's as if he thinks there is some superior alternative that Khan is displacing. Last I checked, there ain't. Fact is, Khan's videos are considered good because the actual history education that most students tak

I find it mildly irritating that a guy writes a several-page article explaining individual, specific performance problems together with measurements and suggested fixes, and you respond that you're sure there's no issue because Google is sm

I don't think that the majority opinion amongst "hackers" (as in, the general programmer audience here) agrees with Stallman in a meaningful sense. A majority might sort of prefer free software, but don't care to fight for it very much;

I more or less agree with you. My original comment was sort of tongue-in-cheek :-) I've heard other people make that same proposition with apparent sincerity, though.

The government's PR branch has really done a number on you. It's absolutely legal to host or mirror Wikileaks, under any reasonable interpretation of the law; remember that the only way that the government can dig up a case on Assange is t

Can someone older or wiser than me discuss what the idea is behind "only one return per method" in imperative code? I agree completely that it makes many methods much more difficult to read, and I've never understood why it was taught as a

I would point out that by sending lottery money to schools, we're (to some degree) incentivizing schools to produce mathematically illiterate people. One might say the same for sending criminals' money to schools.

I don't understand what I am supposed to take away from this link. I basically agree with the top-rated answer; that approach looks to be about how I'd do it. Is there something unusual here? EDIT: This comment was written at a time when

It doesn't usually make any sense to speak of getter methods in Clojure. Records are immutable after construction.

I really have no idea what you are talking about. The rules[1] explicitly give some examples of when titles should be changed, and remark that title changes in general are fine if they aren't overly editorialized. [1] http://ycombinator.c

I think the existing title is significantly better than the rather unenlightening "Nanolaw with Daughter," and I don't think it's better to discourage the "editorialization" of titles (when by editorialization you just mean changing them.)

I was at Clojure Conj last October and in a room of 200 or 300 Clojure programmers, it looked like probably 70% of everyone had a MBP running usually OS X, sometimes Ubuntu, and the other 30% (myself included -- although I dual-boot Windows
