Does the order of the two terminal conditions matter? / Think about it. Does the order of the two terminal conditions matter? / Try it out! Does the order of the two previous answers matter? / Yes. Think first, then try. - The Little Sche

You started off defining intelligence as something limited and not independently useful, and then you concluded that its presence was limited and not independently useful. The answer is that it's not actually obvious that "intelligence and

IQ is strongly correlated with job performance, so yeah, providing evidence that you're in the top 2% by IQ is a really valuable indicator. My Dad was in Mensa, and reading their national magazine as a kid I was not exactly ever inclined to

That doesn't make sense. People emotionally calibrate themselves against the visible skills of the people in their peer group, not a global distribution of IQ.

"Amount of physical violence" is an unreasonable way to measure proportionality of punishment. Someone who destroys $10 million in economic value has probably done much more harm than someone who drags you to a jail cell for a few nights.

What you said deserves four downvotes. A) If your message is "You're learning it the wrong way. You need to actively work to understand and do research on your own." then that is mildly rude and also not really very germane to the discussi

No, there's no difference whatsoever. .NET has no concept of "operators" that are different from functions. F# is statically typed, just like C#, and the only reason you can pass + in this case is because the type of the stack is Stack<

Well, the second version here is better for the following reasons: - 9 less lines of code. - Easier to see that it's correct. Partly because it's less lines, but partly because those lines are more meaningful and less bland. It would be h

I never said you shouldn't try implementing division yourself; everyone should try implementing everything themselves someday. I'm saying that anyone can, if they wish, do a lifetime of useful work (including writing "real-time 3D engine

Mr. Gupta’s friends adamantly dispute the notion that he was driven by material gain. At the trial, his private banker at JPMorgan Chase pegged his family’s net worth at $130 million, in addition to his home in Westport, Conn., a waterfron

I wasn't doing web development in 2003, so I can't really argue. But it's been 9 years during 2003, and there's been a tremendous amount of light and noise about the dangers of weak hashing strategies during that time. I'm sure that Linke

I just googled "PBKDF2 PHP" and the first page was full of free implementations. But maybe it's cheating, since I know what "PBKDF2" is. I tried to simulate what a totally ignorant person would do, and googled "PHP password." The second

I think this is an actively bad idea. If I had to reply to a comment, explaining why the comment is bad, then the most likely scenario is that the writer replies, arguing with me, and I reply, and now the thread is full of a bunch of bulls

As a semi-casual player -- maybe I played 200 games ever -- I could not possibly play enough to earn many of the champions, so I get to choose between not having them or paying a ton of money (IIRC, many are like five to ten bucks a pop.)
