That's because sudo is a BSD tool so it's always worked with the wheel group.

I was referring to data compression not the size of the screen. A Blu-Ray is about 1% of the size of an uncompressed HD film. Of course if you're seeing a digital copy in the cinema it's been compressed down already so a Blu-Ray is about 13

Movies also weren't intended to be viewed compressed down to 1% of their original size in a room with lights and coloured walls. The people that just want to watch movies at home don't care, and grumpy film snobs will know better and turn t

Resolution on the big screen isn't such a big deal - Avatar was only HD (1080). Sure 2K looks better but people weren't noticing the resolution. Increasing the frame rate has a bigger impact than increasing the resolution.

We used to run closer to 1200-1500 at every hosting company that I ran. You don't get much for $5 a month.

No idea. It looks like maybe it belonged to a Bruce Sherrod? At the time the movie came out the official website was whatisthematrix.com, presumably because all the more obvious options were taken, so this was probably some other site whose

I ran this website (and all the other Warner Bros sites) back in 2001 on Netscape Enterprise Server, after it had been sold to Sun and was effectively a dead product. We admins always wanted to move to Apache but there was a Netgravity modu

Most of the visualizations don't send any data to Google. It tells you on the bottom of the page for each chart type under Data Policy, eg http://code.google.com/apis/visualization/documentation/gall...

With Stackless Python you can pickle (serialize) tasklets (coroutines). I built a Seaside-style web app in Stackless where each response would get pickled and saved to disk. When a new request with that id comes in you just unpickle it back

Sports is the thing that's going to sell 3D TVs and there's no mention of it in the article. The broadcasters are investing a lot in their live sports 3D tech and it looks good.

Well it wouldn't take much for something else to outpace the adoption rate of IPv6. I think something will come along that is backwards compatible with v4. We're already seeing things like carrier grade NAT that are just bandaids but we can

IPv6 is more like "solar power" in your analogy. We're going to run out of oil/IPv4 someday and have to replace it with something, but not necessarily IPv6. Actually IPv6 is probably more like "atomic fusion" - some utopian grand project th

The ultimate food hack is the pressure cooker. You can cook things much quicker than usual by changing the rules (ie raising the boiling point of water). They're really good for making basics like rice and quinoa very quickly and you can tu

My project shows up on github as Shell even though it's in C just because of all the autoconf/automake/libtool files. I imagine that's why Shell places so high on the list. For example, my 267 line configure.in file produces a 12952 line co

Stackless is an example of the communicating sequential process model, not concurrency. You avoid all the issues around locking etc because switching between processes (tasklets) is explicit - it's cooperative multitasking not preemptive. I
