A certain fortune 500 finance company did their entire website this way using java 6 EE and serving up the data layer with XML -> Hibernate -> DB2 mainframe queries about 10 years ago. Probably still vestiges of that now.

It's such a nice feeling to be inbetween contracts and not have to worry about how you're going to pay bills. I feel like I've only just now gotten to that with my business. Congrats and hopefully not unemployed for too long

I have been a contractor/consultant for the last 7 years. What I've seen when you try and go down that "write a test" path is. Oh there's a 2500 line stored procedure with hardcoded network paths for production data

Definitely a small world. I worked at the locker in highschool and was sad to see it close down a couple years back.

I never thought I would see something about my hometown of 300 people in rural Iowa on Hackernews. There are several Dvořák murals in town as well as a museum for handmade grandfather clocks made by the Bily brothers. One of their descendan

Second the comment about ingress. By the way, if you have any idea how to get ingress to work without taking down the services that are in it while it updates that would be amazing. I think it would obviously work if we used a separate ingr

When I say it (and I would guess outside of people who either contribute to Kubernetes or are using it to build their own PaaS) I mean a managed service like GKE. When I attempted to set my own cluster up all the confusion was around all of

Agreed. We moved from ECS to GKE specifically because we didn't have the resources to handle what was supposed to be a "managed" container service with ECS. Had agent issues constantly where we couldn't deploy. It did ta

I totally get where you're coming from as I feel like that alot too. But the fact that you are thinking about risk and business value over working on cool new tech should be a positive for the ventures you are a part of.

My favorite part about using ECS was never being able to deploy because our nodes had jacked up ecs agents on them. So the application was still running but you couldn’t touch it. We switched to GKE last year and haven’t had a single proble
