'Linux programming' is fairly vague, but whatever you end up doing (C#/Mono, C/kernel, erlang, LISP, etc it's all there), you definitely want to learn (bash) shell programming and either Perl or Python because that's what most distros use f

As much as I share this sentiment, I'd advise against it. They were very unprofessional and left you in the lurch, but that's not a reason for you to hit the blogs and start throwing mud. In a few years this company may not even be around a

I don't have an account there, but a few things immediately spring to mind. - Caching and cache invalidation are really hard - if you have to go there, make sure you can disable the cache at any time - Using regular expressions for anything

Though not directly related to this post, the sentence 'well ... how hard can it be?' is a signature quote from the lead Top Gear presenter. This almost invariably leads into a challenge that seems easy in theory but the practical execution

I think you're missing the word 'allegedly' in there. The author claims that "Fred" claims that he torched a factory.

The man in the high castle and Ubik by Philip K. Dick. They're next on my wishlist and I've already spent my book budget for this month. If that's not an option I'd donate it to the development of Mongrel2.

I really don't get why it's generally assumed that Zed is an asshole. I exchanged a few technical emails with him when he was just getting started on Mongrel (v1) and his replies were always friendly (as well as being relevant). He's put a

Wow, a one-line, canned, non-answer from Steve Jobs is good enough to warrant an article that makes the front page here these days. Come on people, really?

Usually when people announce a product and give you little else but a future feature list, I'm sceptical. Not with Zed, though.

Well, yes. It's not just comforting, it's also practical. Nobody ever gets to be head of state because that position is already taken by the royal family, who in turn are expected to behave and not mix in with politics. Works well where I'm
