Early on there just weren't cross compilers and "real computers", at least not in the British "back bedroom" games scene. I didn't write on the Spectrum, but certainly on the Dragon and the C64 it was a case of write, save, execute, reset,

I was there, at the PCW Show at Earls Court, when the Spectrum was launched. Well, it was actually just a brochure that was launched IIRC. But it was incredible; the 13-year-old me and hundreds of other people all just sitting where they co

It's worth noting that this and other recent problems are only with Google's mobile wallet implementation, not an issue with NFC.

I wonder if it is possible for anyone to make a fast profit once they cross to the other side of the legal/illegal line, or if one has to be just as skilful as a successful legitimate businessperson to do it...

It is missing the point rather impressively to comment on this fellow's product. It is the clever pitch that makes this front page worthy.

One more point -- just a little one -- is "don't pitch a journalist and then refer him/her to a story recently published by a competitor publication for the details."

No, but this is how the iPod beat every other mp3 player -- it was just undefinably better to use. Typography is one of those features; most people don't think they even notice it, but they do.

Having thought about this some more, I have taken Facebook off our site. As a business we may suffer some downside as a result, but I want to (a) protect the privacy of my site's users and (b) be able to hold my head up and say I'm not part

So how many of us are concerned about this from a personal privacy point of view, but still have all the Facebook buttons and markup all over our sites? I'm a little concerned that, as a website operator, I really ought to work with Faceboo

It's pricey and often complicated to incorporate NFC at this stage. The phones that have it so far are more like experimental/reference platforms than anything else. When NFC is available on combo chips it will be everywhere, and manufactur

Importantly, it is utterly futile to expect a shop assistant (let's say a waifish 17-year-old girl) to tell a customer (for our purposes today, a 30-year old champion cage fighter still bruised from his last bout) that their signature doesn
