Well, considering that their industry didn't exist very long ago, 2000+ employees is still commendable [ie if they had gotten there with no layoffs we'd be saying how great they are doing]. Its a young company, who knows what form it surviv

Well, If its in the tens of thousands of dollars ($10,000) for a .25 cent charge, this seems like alot of risk to handle in house. Ie at that size 1 in 40000 transactions could be fraud and they would be breaking even on the .25 cent charge

I work @ a competitor Atlantic.Net (www.atlantic.net/cloud - Free Trial message me for extra free credits) but I think the market is segmenting between Digital Ocean which is very aggressively priced, and Linode which is trying to throw in

Or, people might be more careful what they spend on, ie things that could provide more utility than the rate at which bitcoins would appreciate.

Since theoretically there is a fixed number of bitcoins, and once lost they can't be retrieved, bitcoins should theoretically be worth infinity when the last one is finally lost.
