Rob "CmdTaco" did some analysis - http://cmdrtaco.net/2011/10/then-along-came-hacker-news/ John Sheehan mentioned numbers the other day too - https://twitter.com/#!/johnsheehan/status/156271988195860480 Seems like the "Hacker News 10K"

Since your asking here, I'll second the suggestion to share a little more. As a .NET developer myself, feel free to ping me privately too. Otherwise, some suggestions would be to look at Tinyproj ( https://tinyproj.com/ ), Forrst Jobs, Stac

I'm sure any investor, including PG, would prefer entrepreneurs to work smarter though, it's not just about hours, but it may take that to succeed. But, after reading this, I remembered this PG essay from a few years ago. "Economically, you

My first time, it was part of the job (acquihire) offer, as the company was 70 miles away. I did 2 days a week in the office though. On my 2nd time working at home now. After 2 years at my current company, I wanted to move to Boulder, an

I'm 4 months into my second working from home experience. First time I was in a room on the main floor with french doors right by the front door and in constant view of wife and kids. This time I'm in a basement, out of view, so that's hel

The perceived "you're just playing around on the computer" attitude from people is annoying though. We have friends where the dad works at home too, in sales, and doesn't really need to work a full day, as long as he makes his calls and me

Ok, so if you're a big name, big brand, or have invested big money in a product you may not a get much of a second chance (be it from customers or investors/managers). But, for the rest of us nobodies, there will be other opportunities for

When I saw StackParts this week I was reminded about how much pain is involved in getting a particular "stack part" up and running. Nice to see a potential solution.

I think in general the "you never get a second chance to make a first impression" attitude by startups is overblown. It's a big world out there. That's not to say you should launch something that sucks, but get it out there if it's intere

No, they used Yodlee initially, and now use the Intuit aggregator. However, Yodlee does some scraping, but rumor was (this was 2008) scraping was less than 10% of financial sites and they had more direct access to other 90%.

I've had similar frustrations with msdeploy. Are you initializing the rsync/Bash from your local machine? What are you running on the server to receivie it?

I've done projects where I'd wing it out from my box in lieu of having a build server. Usually works fine, but I've shot myself in the foot enough to know that if you can spare the time and resources to get a build server up and running to

While straightforward and simple it is not, this is what I'm working towards as well with CC.NET/msdeploy. For QA builds, I manually trigger a CC.NET job that builds and deploys, but with msdeploy it overwrites what's on the QA server, prov

People have been talking about this for years now, since the early grumblings of Twitter performance problems. There was no mass migration then, and I doubt we'll see one anytime soon. There's no viable alternative to Twitter at this point

I like that you shared the apathy and Excel insights. I learned this early on too. Even today in the PF space, I'd still say that's true and shouldn't inhibit anyone from trying to create something cool. Thanks for adding the PR point too.

They're taking the Y Combinator name in vain. They charge to apply and are just giving out loans? Another very entrepreneur unfriendly approach to boosting the startup environment in Portland. So, let's summarize. Portland Angel Network

I disagree. Without adequate coverage of financial institutions, a nice frontend is useless. Users don't want to use a pfm that they can't add all their accounts to. I'd argue the backend (Yodlee) was very instrumental in making Mint easie
