It's equivalent to saying each person should get a production budget, that every person in the world should have an equal income.

Not meaningless, but I agree it says more about industry composition than how green their energy is.

Production creates emissions, not people. A more informative ratio is tons/GDP US 5087M tons, $19.4 trillion GDP -> 262 tons/M$ EU 4152M tonnes, $17.1 trillion GDP -> 242 tons/M$ So still worse, but not as bad as that.

Organizations do not always communicate well, and sometimes things only reach the CEO via the press. Do not assume that the whole organization, or even just its executive, agrees with or knows about everything the organization does.

I don't think this is what they are actually using, but path tracing can be reduced to a really huge sparse sampling problem. This means that given any predictive model of how much paths through the scene will add light to a pixel, you

You can't "repeal" local zoning at the state level. You can only place restrictions on that zoning. So yes, we need state laws that limit the power of local governments to restrict housing construction.

I'd like to see SB827 for office space instead of transit. The density of residential zoning near these big suburban campuses should at least equal the density of the campuses themselves.

If I knew I'd be moving there. The only thing keeping my friends and I in the bay area are each other and the lack of a clear alternative. If another locations starts to get serious traction I'd expect a phase transition.

I think you could get away with swapping out upper level algorithms and systems courses and swapping in statistics and ML. I've used my OS class 0 times in my career. The class I've used the most was the second level statistics cl

If there's any gene out there that causes babies to sleep through the night, it's probably under enormous selection pressure. Parents carrying that gene would have twice as many kids.

I'm confused both by your proposal, and your resistance to this one. Commuters and "people with less wealth who have a stake in the community" are exactly the same group of people. What other criteria would you use?

So police, teachers, firefighters, gardeners, construction workers, tradesmen, who work in a community and commute from outside it shouldn't have a say in the policies of the community? Most bay area cities don't have any of those

It's a classic prisoner's dilemma. If everywhere built housing, traffic would get better everywhere, but no one individually has an incentive to build it because on its own it makes traffic in the immediate vicinity worse.

Building more housing decreases traffic as people move to shorten their commutes. Building offices without housing is what increases traffic, which is what most cities in the bay are currently doing.
