I agree this is so annoying. I love the idea though... I have a good idea -> I pitch it and then 100 people start building my idea too. Nice! Now I don't think having an idea is the same as executing it well, but I could imagine people

Maybe it is a good idea to ease the load on the API by scraping the HTML pages of twitter. Follower count is right there. This solution is only partially ugly if you are only after the follower count of a username.

Yes thats the way to create great new products. Make it easy for non-techies to get them up and running and make sure they run on shared hosting and are created in a language that beginners use to learn about programming.
