And in the case of many others, it makes a very significant difference. And a codec doesn't have enough information to know. Imagine a criminal investigation. A witness happened to take a video as the perpetrator did the crime. In the

I don't want my video decoder inventing details which aren't there. I much rather want obvious compression artifacts than a codec where the "compression artifacts" look like perfectly realistic, high-quality hallucinated

> So now that h.264, h.265, and AV1 seem to be the three major codecs with hardware support, I wonder what will be the next one? Hopefully, we can just stay on AV1 for a long while. I don't feel any need to obsolete all the hardware

Hey I tried to use Siri to call my mom ~half a week ago and it said it didn't know who my mother was. I did find it weird since although I don't use Siri much, I was almost certain I've had success with that exact same reques

Mozilla's position for some time now has been, "we aren't opposed to shipping JXL support, but we'd want to ship a decent implementation in a memory safe language, not the reference C++ implementation". That positio

Is your definition of "Red Hat's moat" just "things Red Hat has spent money on and made freely available to everyone"? How does that fit into any definition of a "moat"? Who are the "main developers o

Steam Big Picture is very couch friendly, if you're using a game pad and what you're launching supports a game pad. That's why it works for a couch gaming PC. Firefox has pretty bad gamepad support last I checked.

The huge problem with Kodi is that it requires playing media from within Kodi. The advantage of using a PC for this is that it works with anything you can play from a PC, regardless of whether someone has made an app for it for Apple TV or

What do you mean by a "moat"? Surely Wayland works on non-RedHat operating systems? Either your conspiracy theory makes absolutely no sense, or you're completely incapable of expressing it.

It seems like you're mixing up your dislike for some of the technical decisions made in Wayland (some of which I share, FWIW) with some weird conspiracy theory about how Freedesktop's main mission is to argue with developers.

You can argue that controllers shouldn't behave that way. But they do, it's not a bug, and it's not a dead controller. It's a perfectly functional controller's response to dead blocks.
