The various Red Hat affiliated projects have so much more reason to call themselves the "OS" than GNU at this point. A Linux system with systemd for the init, systemd-networkd and NetworkManager for networking, GNOME for the deskt

Maybe we should cut out the middle man and make it easy for people to donate money to open-source projects, and let the maintainers decide whether to use them on tokens or hosting or developer salaries or something else.

I don't understand how that's supposed to work. What does the decoder decode into ? That's gonna depend entirely on the kind of data, right? For some formats, it's gonna be a stream of bytes; for others, a 2D plane of p

A full clone is not a very interesting game. It seems like Minetest has more or less evolved from trying to be a Minecraft clone to trying to be Roblox, that's ... weird

Yes, but what parts of io_uring are safe to not disable?

I don't think Minetest has much of a chance, it always felt like a loose group of programmers making a game engine rather than game designers creating a game. At least when I last tried it, it was completely devoid of any features to i

Why? "Game ready drivers" are just a marketing thing to add game-specific performance hacks to new games, you don't expect "instability" just because nvidia doesn't do that anymore

What's the singular function that has a chance of turning out to be exploitable in the future?

Well the reason it's disabled now is the recent history of pretty bad vulnerabilities. It probably needs to go a while without new vulnerabilities before it makes sense to enable by default. It's pretty complex completely unsafe C

If I have a buffer of bytes, and I intend to treat the content of that buffer as individual bytes, what is semantically wrong with "read 65k 1-byte-sized items into this buffer"? Wouldn't it be a bit unnatural to express it a
