I have not encountered any need for throwing away results, speculative computation as you describe it. An example of programming non-deterministically is the swarm model (ants). You can for example write the text editor of a word processor

At our startup we are creating our own many core processor SiliconSqueak and VM along the lines of David Ungars work. Writing non-deterministic software is fun, you just need to radically change your perspective on how to program. For Lisp

A great and important lecture about "ways to think about things", with just a little about Programming and Scaling and STEPS (see www.vpri.org ) at the end. For me this talk sums up why and how we at our startup Morphle are thinking about t

My apologies for the triple post. I did wait a while after the first post. As It did not show in the list, I reposted. My bad.

Anybody who is interested in Alan's point of view and want to know more or want to work on the systems we design based on "messaging all the way down" like our startup Morphle (see http://siliconsqueak.org ) should email us at aart5@knowa

Maybe Name-calling (DH0) and Ad Hominem attack {DH1) is not the best way to respond to Cringely, a professional journalist? See PG's take on that at http://www.paulgraham.com/disagree.html

I linked to Cringely and not the original source for a good reason. Cringely is a professional journalist with a good track record who always checks his sources, not a me-to blogger with a personal rumor. There is a difference.

Yes, there are several lists. The most complete one was done in 2009 in a Google Docs spreadsheet. I have a hard time finding it again, thanks to Google not allowing you to download these docs...

What a lot of single founders are out there! I am pleasantly supprised. I would dare predict that the first company to successfully compete with Ycombinator will be the one that does (truly) accept single founders.

I'm now a single founder (again). I also was a single founder with the first three startups I did. I keep trying out cofounders, but they all seem to lack perseverance. Most also have difficulty understanding the tech. I would welcome a bus

At my startup I'm implementing these ideas from VPRI right now, we focus on implementing a parallel message-passing architecture in hardware and software. Founders wanted!

I think this will work. You must be companies on three continents within different legal systems. You should not have to many ties as managers, but shareholders is fine as long as you do not travel to all thes countries. You must own fiber

We can accomodate you in the Netherlands. As the first ISP here I know my way around. We applied to Ycombinator this cycle with a site that we host ourselves, but I am happy to help find you any type of hoster you'll like. Merik at Knoware.

I have a demo because my startup is allready in operation for months. But what is a demo? The technology I demo is very special, but will Ycombinator spot that in a minute? I doubt it, it needs a person presenting the demo. If it is very ob

When you already run a startup like we do, you do not have much time to submit, you code, so the deadline sneaks up on you. I would say you can not read much into the submission date.

I agree completely. I have done startups before during recessions, and never had any problems because of them. Cofounders are a little harder to find, at least those who listen to the gloomy news and are scared because of it. However, good
