Here is my hard learned lesson: DO NOT STUDY JUST TO GET AN DEGREE! It such a waste of good time AND money (lost income) to study some random topic that you could not care less about. MANY students fall into the trap of choosing a study/car

I don't think that is science from academia, but rather popular science that is trying to be speculative so Discovery will be tempted to make a tv-show about it..

personally I use Posterazor [1] which does not have mono/.net dependencies. Its a small app which support both OSX, Windows and Linux. I used it for an rc air-plane design, making a 1:1 scaled print. Worked great! [1] http://posterazor.sour

Linus Torvalds called the bsd-people for a bunch 'masturbating monkeys' and the digg-crowd for a bunch of 'wanking walruses'. I wonder if there was a more appropriate term for chatroulettes users.. But lets be honest guys - we all thought "

There is an obvious question here: why would someone learn B? The entire reason for C being conceived was the lack of creating abstractions in B. No project should be carried out using B, so I suppose its published for sheer historical reas

Many good points here. Rich Hickey has made a lot of good choices in designing the language and its core libraries; it "feels" like a good fusion of Scheme and Common Lisp, richer than the former and not at all crufty or impossibly massive

Then please tell me how software gets built. Provide me with a methodology, instead of being a arrogant fool like you are now. Yes, a code monkey is a term I'm familiar with. But you need good communication skills too.

"A knowledge of algorithms doesn't teach you to pick the right problems to solve." That is true. To create a application, one needs a Use Case. A Use Case will provide the most abstract solution to what the app will be doing. Then you can

Who said that algorithms are everything? No, of course they are not. In C-languages you have about 50% memory management, then you have code architecture. But algorithms are the very heart of programming, and the most important topic. Loo

No its not 'harder' to learn. You just have to understand the concept of applicative evaluation and prefix notation. Then recursion and higher-order functions. That is four things. (Macros can be considered advanced). In the end, all functi

exactly my point. Unfortunate for us schemers that we don't have such a mainstream implementation. Also, it would be cool if linux distributions could ship with a minimal scheme. Modules could be downloaded & installed as we need them.
