I actually don't think it's worth noting. I think, if a particular code standard issue is really of value, it will be obvious. You will propose it and nobody will argue. I think the fact that code standards are contentious is proo

"Use /* */ for comments, not //." I find stuff like this hilarious. No software project has ever failed, or even slow down one iota, because of the comment style. This is just someone's personal "ick&

If you have such a test suite then you really don't need AI to write the code for you.

> Humans reading texts historically come with little negative consequences IDK, we do have laws against opening other people's mail. Those have been on the books for hundreds of years. Seems like someone figured out a while ago that

I have never heard of this. Not saying it doesn't exist, I don't know what it's like to get involved as a maintainer, but as a regular user just asking questions on the mailing list, I never received any abuse.

You are such a typical German, afraid of the law. There are laws that are important like murder and stealing and then there are laws that are not important like jaywalking and being a public nuisance. You need to stop treating the latter li

I took my kids out of school and took an unplanned day off work in the middle of an important meeting series to drive 5 hours west from Virginia to Ohio to see the last eclipse. The schools and my boss were both yelling at me, both saying t

"Meta Muse" immediately made me think of Metamucil. Product teams really need to hire at least one or two people with a 12-year-old's sense is humor. They need to winnow all the potential stupid jokes out of their product nam

I'm talking about OpenAI, not GPT 5.x Flash Uranus Edition Brought to You by Costco, specifically because I recognize the model as just a tool. OpenAI was, at the very most generous interpretation, massively incompetent and negligent.

Having experience breaking into networks is not the same thing as learning about the techniques used and the classes of vulnerabilities exploited by attackers.

Speaking of that "obviously impressive" line, I'm getting really tired of something like that line seemingly needing to be included by anyone doing any criticism of agentic systems. The most common form of it is "these m

I'm not some Google/Microsoft/whatever engineer who's been working on highly scalable, highly available systems. I've mostly worked in consulting on small projects. I have never not had problems with the defaults on

The hype train the caught me was VR. I'm reminded of the Microsoft Hololens. It was an incredible feat of engineering. At the same time, it was--at times, literally--a painful experience. There was a vision of the Hololens being a gene

If it's open source, where is the source? I couldn't find a link to a repository. There is a link to GitHub on the Contact Us page, but it's just a link to github.com.

Nothing to do with the database itself. It's the tooling necessary to give the agentic harness access to the database that is the problem.

Those sort of ideas are unlikely to yield major benefit, though. This is basically replicating the plight of the solo open source dev, writ large. Individual programmers have long built the thing they've cared about on their own time (

Back around 2015, I did an experiment where I spent most of my working day in VR (mostly spent iterating on some interaction space designs in TiltBrush). I had many of those feelings directly after. It actually felt uncomfortable to be arou

It's really not that bad. KDE is perfectly usable by default. More so than the only options you get on macOS or Windows. And, if you are so inclined, you can spend that extra effort to make it sing just to you. So, the hyperbole here
