I wish that this is how it worked. The sidewalk was in 'significant disrepair' and any repairs/replacements have to be ADA compliant: https://www.sfpublicworks.org/services/permits/sidewalk-repa...

Unfortunately $100K is not that much in the Bay Area. I had to spend $50K total 10 years ago to make my side walk ADA compliant (as it is front of a bus stop) when I bought my place in SF. They would not issue any further building permits o

Desktop performance my behind. What's the point of all that CPU power when IO performance remains in mid 2000s territory? It takes forever to boot, any time disk access occurs everything crawls to a halt. M.2 has been around for 5+ yea

Most aluminum packaging has plastic liner. Which has to be burned away in most cases. Glass works if you bottle and reuse locally. Unfortunately infrastructure for this is long gone in the US.

Why would Apple care about how DirectX is doing? They support 'Standards' and 'Open Source' to the extent that it benefits them and that's it. Vulkan is not designed to be used by game developers directly but rather

Great and now I have to also track security updates and ship those for all my dependencies. libcurl is a great example with a release cycle of 2(!) months and tons of vulnerabilities being fixed each time.

"Solar panels create mountains of waste, much of it being disassembled by kids in Africa who then get sick because of it." Source? Electronics associated with solar panels might be an issue but modern inverters use less and less t

I could see an IT department using these (misguidedly) for purely internal purposes: .cam .camera .coop .drive .equipment .institute .media .network .systems .wiki. These are now registered TLDs. You are begging for someone to misconfigure

I hear this argument a lot in the EE community. Yet, the cheapest 8051 part in single quantities on DigiKey: $0.43. Cheapest ARM Cortex-M0 part on DigiKey: $0.47. I'll take the ease of development and features on ARM for $0.05. You can

Failure to handle NTSC frame rates is exactly why no one uses a time definition like this. ISO/MP4 gets it right: Using a time scale with sample durations. If you work with tracks or files with different time scales you just use the sm

It's the other way around. A deflationary economy forces the feds to lower interest rates to encourage lending. We've had record breaking low inflation rates for a decade now. A 'healthy' inflation rate would be in the 3

That's what the keyword volatile is for. If something is not marked volatile the compiler is allowed to change the order and collapse any memory accesses it deems unnecessary.
