Agreed, I was a huge BeOS evangelist back when Be, Inc. was still around and a while after they were bought out. I ran it as my main OS for several years and to this day I prefer its interface, multimedia back-end, and file system to anythi

I'm sure I could. I actually tried to donate it to an OpenBSD developer but never heard back from them for the address to send it to, so it went back in the closet.

I've had a good experience with the latest versions of Manjaro and video acceleration, but I've also had the same boot issues since I bought mine (around May 2020). Right now it sits unused and neglected because I can't trust

Nice setup, thanks! Just to note, the network-manager-* packages are now networkmanager-*, and the xf86-input-keyboard and xf86-input-mouse are no longer available (nor needed, I believe). Also, I see packages in your list for running under

Alpine might be a better choice for you, its intended use is in VMs and containers, it's actively maintained and supported, and it gets better with each release. https://alpinelinux.org

I will only buy a Lenovo laptop if it comes with a BSD and Linux friendly WiFi chipset. Most of their laptops are whitelist-only when it comes to WiFi cards, and tracking down the correct brand and revision of a specific compatible module i

Not all of it. > Of the three layers, only the UI layer is closed-source. This means that roughly 92% of the browser’s code is open-source coming from Chromium, 3% is open-source coming from us and only 5% is our UI closed-source code.

Vivaldi is not open source so that's an immediate "no" from me. I'm fine with using closed source tools from time to time, but a web browser is just too important and intertwined in my life to trust a closed source offer

Not OP but I've avoided Brave from the beginning because of its reliance on an ad-fueled crypto scam to generate revenue. If you're trying to avoid Mozilla's new ad-based revenue scheme, moving to a browser that is wholly fun

I'm guessing you're running it on Ubuntu or Debian, or a derivative. The packaged .debs are sorely outdated and buggy. If you're on Ubuntu or similar, you can add a ppa[1] for the daily builds which in my experience are much

Of course it's trivially solved...with a dongle for your dongle! Or you could avoid dongle-ception by using a modular laptop like the Framework, or even a standard laptop with an HDMI port; even current-gen models from Dell, Lenovo, an

I would argue that a USB-C to VGA or HDMI cable is just a longer dongle. What if you take your USB-C-only laptop to a remote office to do a presentation, but your six foot USB-C to HDMI cable isn't long enough to reach the port because
