I read this and thought “no, the iPads still have them right?”. I went to check my new iPad and... sure enough, it’s gone. I didn’t even notice. It’s one of those little moments when you take a step back and realise how much things have cha

You see it as a video viewer but plenty of people use it as a general media (including music) player. If you’ve got 100 songs queued up, then keeping track of a playlist is definitely necessary.

Might be interesting/feasible to build a GitPrime competitor and sell it for far less, making it approachable to much smaller businesses or teams. Since the data comes from git one assumes the analysis can be done asynchronously in the

This is so strange to read about. I’ve worn my QC35 (and QC25 before them) almost every day for about 8-10 hours a day, for years, and not once have I experienced any kind of discomfort related to their use. I’m on the completely opposite c

There's a big difference, though; they're not all connected. Each team is its own separate entity. A team with 10 people might pay Slack $100/mo, and all be in the UK. Those people and that Slack team's database doesn&#x

A Slack team is a self-contained unit, however, if I understand correctly. It -should- be easily horizontally scalable (please correct me if I'm wrong). Each team could have its own database, its own app servers running on whatever reg

Perhaps I'm just not aware how things work in companies of Slack's size, but... what do you think $4M/mo is spent on, for what essentially amounts to a chat app? I realise there a lot of extras in Slack (attachments cost S3 s

Amusingly, I suppose that war, and the urge to beat the Soviet Union, is what even got people to the moon in the first place. Without it, I sincerely believe we still wouldn't have been there. If the Cold War was still raging and Russi

I didn't say that it should, only that no-audio videos behaving like GIFs seems like a good idea for bandwidth. Otherwise people will just use GIFs.

The same reason a GIF begins playing if you can't see it. As mentioned, video without audio is being used as a GIF replacement; it makes sense for it to behave the same way.

It used to warn you. IE6, I believe, used to say "you're about to leave a secure site", or something along those lines. But the world was different then, and HTTPS wasn't as common as it is today. I strongly suspect that

A few things that I can think of, off the top of my head (other posters: feel free to correct me if I've made a mistake): 1. Wages are a small portion of the total cost of everything. For example, for a place like Walmart, the bulk of

Publish it with lower-res versions of the pictures, perhaps clickable if someone really wants the higher-res version. The no-frills, no-JS, no-bloat reading experience is still useful even if your content is mostly picture-centric.
