Me, too! I had such a great time at your hacker summer camp when I visited a few years ago - met amazing people in beautiful Soča valley. Those images brought back memories of the extra days I stayed in Ljubljana. https://pif.c

Even without the wind, the separate words help. In crew (rowed) boats, people sit backwards. And then boats are stored on racks upside-down. It can get complicated!

I love that the TMS34082 math coprocessor had user-definable microcode! This was intended to work with 3D graphics, so you could really get the most out of the ALU by chaining operations for your specific need (e.g. divide-and-sqrt single

Maybe a combination? Even simple beamforming/stereo would be helpful to help display the speaker's location. For example, the "speaker 1" tag could appear on the left, center, or right of the display to give a spatial

There are also cultural differences, too. Asian companies preferred colder whites, while our US customer wanted a warmer white. We were told this made the different skin tones more attractive.

Ah, you must not have seen the pre-ipod players. The Personal Jukebox was 2.5 larger than an ipod. It didn't fit in a pocket and the grey plastic felt cheap compared to the ipod's shiny metal back. It really felt experimental,

I too was also expecting a same-thrust controlled study. From the fundamental frequencies in the two graphs, we can see the toroidal propeller (72 Hz) is spinning slower than the traditional (88 Hz). Assuming, of course the same fundamenta

CCC was a lot of fun. At the time there was a special package for people from the US for hostel+admission so that no one would be stuck with airfare and no ticket. Had a great time, ended up talking the night away at the hostel bar with th

That was a tactic Nintendo used with the gameboy. The courts eventually decided that the logo, when used as an access token like that, no longer qualified for the creative component required for copyright protection.

You don't remember the phone-bolted-on-to-an-ipod renders. There were lots of surprises, and even then the impact of half the innovations weren't widely recognized at the time. https://theultralinx.com/2014/0

You are correct - two things happening here: 1. Picking up RF energy from far away. This is the easy part - cell phone antennas are already a big compromise and can be improved on if you increase size or cost. Instead of omni-directional

It has only 64 shades (6-bit) instead of your more typical 8-bit, so this more limited colors than you'd expect. Banding is more typically seen in monochromatic gradients - black and white or shades of sky blue. But this image is a ye

That sounds good! Two other solutions: - low pass filter. Assuming the dust is small compared to the expected movement in the groove, you can filter it out electornically. - dust detector. Nikon had a cool 35mm scanner... instead of RGB, i

That's a great graph, thanks. But there is a whole lot factored in to those numbers. Check out this paragraph in the next page: >The running of aging nuclear power plants generally leads to higher operating and maintenance costs.

Good explanation. A simple GPS receiver will have a generic mathematical model for the ionosphere and use that as a good guess. More advanced ones can measure the delay directly. The ionosphere affects different frequencies differently, so

>If a vendor doesn't work out, just move to another RISC-V vendor. It doesn't really work that way. NASA needs two main things that most vendors can't supply: a radiation-hardened chip, and super-high quality controls.

No idea. I talked with the truck driver, and he said we was being paid way more than $8 for the delivery. I used my company account, so I guess they're willing to take a loss on some orders and make it up on others.

It's funny how those are the same arguments people made when a company that built PCs started making phones. How could they compete with Verizon?! They were thinking evolutionary, but the iPhone had so many fundamental changes (techno

I'll second that. I ordered an 8-foot-long aluminum bar for $25, which, at the time, was too long to ship with traditional shippers. So, a semi trailer showed up at my door. Shipping cost $8.

My best friend's husband is always bringing home winning $20 or $50 lotto tickets. His family can't afford the $75 a week he spends on those, but every gas station sells them. Even not-out-of-control cases are harmful.

That was one design that was extensively tested and then copied. Weight was no concern. Most satellites are unique, so the same can't be done. Besides being weight critical, every failed satellite becomes space junk.

Cool, thanks! I use Stocks on a variety of platforms and never seem to scroll down far enough to see the ad, so I had to check to see why my experience was vastly different. I'm in the same boat as you without News+.

That's not what Stocks looks like - you scrolled down about two pages to get to the ad. You make it look like the ad is first. https://imgur.com/a/t7ncKoc
