Gotta say that design is pretty cool looking. I like how they put a golf course on the perimeter!

Exactly! I don't think most people understand how bad this move to ARM will be for developers. You are losing the ability to run/test/develop the vms and containers that are deployed in prod.

Same way it's done in the cloud. Immutable infra via virtual machine images. vSphere is the fabric that connects everything, packer builds the machine images, tf/govc deploys. To be honest though these days it's more for stan

This is pretty neat. Since a new server is launched for every preview, it would be cool if the packaging used cloud-init vs docker-compose. If containers are a focus perhaps you could support k8s deployment/svc manifests and compose vi

That sounds like a disaster waiting to happen! Seems like a perfect use-case for Cluster API: https://cluster-api.sigs.k8s.io/user/quick-start.html Have one global "mgmt cluster" with several workload cluster

In a Kubernetes context can do this with Cluster API. I run my mgmt cluster in vSphere which spins up workload clusters in vSphere and AWS on demand. Works great! https://cluster-api.sigs.k8s.io/user/quick-start.html

VMware ESXi has a cool feature that allows you to create "fake" pmem drives from a percentage of your host memory. It's pretty fun to experiment with!

Do you think automation doesn't exist with on-prem? The vSphere terraform provider is very mature. https://www.terraform.io/docs/providers/vsphere/index.html You can build your own machine images with pa

Perhaps i'm misunderstanding but this seems to convert a declarative workflow into an imperative one. Doesn't this seem backwards? Kubernetes manifests are declarative by design and for good reason, the controllers reconcile the s

Doesn't seem like it based on > Instead of pushing the new build to our servers using a sync script, each server pulls the build concurrently when signaled by a Consul key change.
