Haskell does this. If you derive Eq, it puts a condition on the generic parameter(s) requiring them to be Eq as well. Then if you use it with something that doesn’t implement Eq, your generic type doesn’t either. It helps if you can express

Is this going to be the new wave of improving AI accuracy? Making the incorrect answers correct? I guess it’s one way of achieving AGI.

Spiderlight. It’s short, and I wouldn’t recommend it to someone who hasn’t read a lot of fantasy already, but it’s a smart novel.

Children of Time There’s lots of answers to this depending on taste, but you also get into arguments about whether such and such is space opera or planetary romance. Children of Time is hard SF the way a reader from the 1960s would have und

Counterpoint: every time I meet someone who is perceived this way, they’re definitely an asshole, but their “productivity” is often mostly corner-cutting. Other devs irritation with them is often conflating the technical unprofessionality w

Is it just me or do these arguments not even convince a disinterested bystander? I particularly dislike “stupidity should be costly”. All of us are stupid sometimes. I’d rather that didn’t tank our entire firm.

Let’s just say that I think it’s an important event and understanding how a guy harassing his ex-girlfriend became a formative moment in alt-right history is fascinating, but I really don’t want to get drawn into arguments with anyone who’s

Let’s just say that if you wanted to understand lenses, this is not where you should start; and if you wanted to move to more advanced scenarios, I wouldn’t start here either.

GamerGate is well worth understanding. While some of the details are unique to the situation, it’s provided a template for right-wing radicalisation that’s been employed multiple times since. There’s also an entertaining “where are they now

Yes, but you can’t write something that’s generic over “things that support Select” because that’s not expressible via the type system. So you can’t write a function, then get a version that works on lists, then a version that works on task

Your basic problem is that your programming language can’t express the concept cleanly. You need what’s called “Higher-Kinded Types”. To give you a concrete example, in C# Func<A, B>, List<A> -> List<B> Func<A, B>

My God the radicalisation funnel produces some utter brain rot. Unsubstantiated accusations, slippery positions designed to distance your moral culpability in the consequences of your actions. Seriously, read yourself sometime.

What’s the point in a luxury brand where you’re embarrassed to be seen displaying the logo? I don’t think I’ve ever seen brand impairment like this that didn’t result in the brand being retired. The only way forward I can see for them in Eu

There was a group of people under the gov.uk banner who were actually really good. But a challenge is that if you employ someone, you need to fit them into your grade structure. And decent programmers earn “Senior Civil Servant” figures.

Honestly I think this is extremely impressive, but it also raises what I call the “junior programmer” problem. Say XBOW gets good enough to hoover up basically all that money and can do it cost-effectively. What then happens to the pipeline

I mean, if you don’t want to include tests that LLMs are, by definition, bad at, why don’t we do the same thing for humans?

I’m beginning to feel like the tests are part of the problem. Our intelligence tests are all tests of specialisation. We’ve established LLMs are part of the problem. Plenty of people who would fail a bar exam yet still know how many Rs ther
