It's the same thing everywhere — there are some dependencies you can't ship. On Linux, you can't ship the window server (because you need to share it with all of the other apps also running). On mac, you can't ship Core

It's often literally not possible to ship everything. You wouldn't want to spin up a second X11 (or Wayland) server, for example, because you can't have two of them talk to the same video card device at the same time usefully

Some old tools had bugs where they'd read a line (up to the new line) and then process it, so if the last line didn't end with a new line they'd never do the processing. So a manual workaround for bugs became the convention.

Isn't the point to pay _no_ attention? The difference is when an accident occurs, was the person in the car at fault for not vigilantly watching everything.

Right; the context was somebody worrying about not having support, so saying that something can be essentially be maintained as a collector's car was kind of confusing.

Gruber appears to be in Arizona; I couldn't tell from skimming their website if that means they can't service vehicles in, say, Seattle?

You probably want a car with Android Auto instead of Android Automotive. Yep, it's totally dumb that those are two separate things with very similar names. The former is a CarPlay equivalent, where your phone projects a screen. The lat

I've had the displeasure of depending on one such project, which means I'd need to look at it once every few months. Need to page all the vocabulary back every time. (Actually it was a project with multiple subprojects done by dif

My understanding is that it's popular now to use rollbacks in fighting games (in combination with delays so the rollback doesn't get too far). Perhaps something like that would be useful, though of course that would depend on the

Visual Novels is typically somewhere between just keep clicking to read (like a ebook) or some choices (like a choose -your-own-adventure book). But I've also seen one Ren'Py game with a strategy game (hex grid turn based, IIRC) i

I wonder if they were checking for extra entries in the Windows boot config database instead (i.e. Windows chain loading grub), but most people go the other way?

I'm not sure tech literacy can be taught, but mostly because of the constant treadmill of changing UIs. Things that used to be safe are not anymore, because people (Chrome in this case) keeps trying to make things "easier", d

Often I find reviews are useful precisely because of the distance the reviewer has to the code; a fresh set of eyes is good to catch issues. (Frequently I'd go over my own changes before submitting for review for the same reason). Pair

As I noted elsewhere in the thread, Android Auto only works when your app is distributed through the Play store. Side loading doesn't get the correct signature to do that.

You can't show up in Android Auto unless you're distributed through the Play store (third party things like F-Droid and side loading means your app doesn't show in the car).

Don't a lot of the linters run externally via language servers? I'm pretty sure the rust linters are rust-native for example.

When I was shopping for things a while back, the impression I got from the OpenWRT forums was that a lot of it is using older versions of OpenWRT with proprietary SDKs from silicon/platform vendors and it's not really upstreamable

While I agree that Win2k was good, I don't think it was quite that popular; The computers you could normally get were still Win98/Me until WinXP. The only way you'd have gotten Win2k pre-installed was either getting a worksta

Does it matter? If the comment doesn't match the code, there's a bug (in the comment or the code). Either way you need to spend time to understand the context and figure out the correct thing, not trusting either.

Outdated comments are great, because it means you probably have a bug right there. If the comment didn't get updated, the code change probably didn't look at all the context and missed things. Pretty sure I'm guilty of that p

On the upside for them, that also means and reviews will be done comparing against the Intel chips with any mitigations applied.
