The claim that 25% of monitors are CRTs is at least five years old (read: at least five years out of date).

Or you can put it in your PROMPT (don't forget to surround it with \[...\], as they're non-printing characters).

Please, just because Slashdot uses a biased headline, we don't have to copy that biased headline here. Should be “Leaked Memo Says RIM, Nokia, Apple, Etc Provide Backdoors To Governments”.

Google is trying to replace HTTP with SPDY. HTML 5 is arguably a disruption of HTML (more WHAT-WG -v- W3C, perhaps). Phone/tablet apps are disrupting the web.

Yeah, I read it before you changed the title. I agree that EC2 isn't value for money if you're looking to rent a server for a month at a time.

EC2 is a scam? Are you accusing Amazon of fraud?

Flagged for a linkbait title that isn't supported by the body of the article. EDIT: Title has been changed to something more reasonable, so I've removed my flag.

From November, so when it says "early next year" (w.r.t. Firefox implementing SPDY) it means "early this year".

What can this unique identifier give authors that the url of their home page for their book does not? All I can think of is that urls do not have check digits, whereas ISBNs and presumably your unique identifiers do, so typos can be caught

The possibility that earlier-to-report areas are not representative of Iowa as a whole should be examined properly, rather than mentioned and then discarded in favour of generating a pretty graph.

It has to do with the atheism community on Reddit. Even if, for sake of argument, the atheism community on Reddit is composed mostly of Vatican-sponsored trolls... it would still be a problem for atheists, because it would be giving atheist

If they were only giving the CDs to purchasers of laptops that came with Windows preinstalled but without Windows install/recovery CDs, then morally I don't see the problem. Legally... I hope they checked with their lawyers.

Those text fields need labels. How's anyone supposed to know what to enter, or in what order? (Edit: the field labels are there as placeholder values, which my (older) browser doesn't show.) And a deeper issue: what if my laptop remembers t

Some of the drop-off in use is due to Christmas, possibly all of it. The reduced use only started two weeks ago, but is more marked than the previous year. We won't know for sure for another week or two.

I don't know of any other way for a site to get banned other than PG banning it manually. It might be helpful if we could find out what, if any, links to winsupersite were flagged to death (i.e. not autokilled).

The phases of the moon are about 29½ days long. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moon and see the synodic period (quoted to a tenth of a second even though full moon to full moon can vary by about ¼ day either way).)

OK, it breaks the assumption that quarters are a whole number of months. 12 is a handy number of months to have in the year. 12 is divisible by 2, 3, 4, and 6. Not by 5, but you can't have everything (unless we had 60 months of 6 or 7 days
