I personally think Occupy Wall Street is a great movement and am very excited to see Americans speak up but I have to admit I'm not as impassioned with it as some others are. I know its selfish but I think this probably has to do with the

Worked for 4 years in SF and left a couple years ago for another job... the whole time I was there I felt like I was seeing a different city than everyone else. For the most part I found it dirty, unfriendly, cold and way overpriced. Ther

I'd agree that in tech in general you have to be very very careful in terms of understanding what you are really stepping into. There are jobs that are great but there are more jobs that are not so great (meaning the pay may be good but...

I couldn't agree with this article more. Due to the awkwardness around not accepting a friend invite, my Facebook consists of just about everyone I've ever known in my life. It is convenient to have an easy channel to track someone down i

In someways I feel fortunate to not work in gaming. There are so many platforms and languages you've got to hit and probably by the time you've gotten your game's reach maximized the landscape has totally changed. I know Unity is helping

Agreed - if someone enjoys their startup life, more power to them in that there is nothing that pays better than enjoying your situation. For someone who is looking at it as a financial play but sitting in a startup that is grinding them d

I would be highly suspicious of the greater than $11M category. You'd have to have one hell of an exit to get $11M as an employee and according to the poll about 1 / 16 people on hacker news have been through this or more. From my experie

There actually should be a negative category for all those that got hit with taxes after excersizing and then couldnt cash out. This unfortunately happens more frequently than you might think.

Is this before or after taxes? In my case, the difference between 60% of $0 and the full $0 is drastically different.

The emphasis is on "core" - software is just a tool to enhance the core business as you're pointing out. If the bakery's core business sucks but they are great at software they will still suck as a bakery.

Not in reference specifically to product roles, I think one of the problems right now in SV and probably in other tech hubs is the migration of finance, law, "other fancy profession" people to the tech industry as the bubble has inflated.
