Conway's Law shines again! It's amazing how much explanatory power it has, to the point that I can predict at least some traits about a company's codebase during an interview process, without directly asking them about it.

It might have required a GoT level budget to make, but it wont look as good a GoT. Just a few days ago McDonalds learned that (again) in the Netherlands

Hmmm, I'm a bit confused of their conclusions (encouraging use) given some of the really damning caveats they point out. A tool they themselves determine to need such careful oversight probably just shouldn't be used near prod at

That 100% claim is doing an awful lot of work. Theres is ample documentation from most corporate rollouts that show the opposite, and as a SWE I find it worse than useless...

> If all of "AI stuff" is a "no" for you, then I think you just signed out off working in most industries to some important degree going forward. I'm not sure the penetration of AI, especially to a degree where p

Idk, having a bunch of government surveillance drones doesn't really sound great... Maybe we just don't need this level of surveillance at all?

My bosses aren't pushing it at all. The normal cargo-cult temptations have pulled on some fellow SWEs, but its being pretty effectively pushed back on by its own failings, paired with SWEs who use it being outperformed by those who don

All I see it doing, as a SWE, is limiting the speed at which my co-workers learn and worsening the quality of their output. Finally many are noticing this and using it less...

Great piece, but worth mentioning that you generally can't use a presigned URL with CDN endpoints. So great for sensitive content, but if you rly want the thing to be widely and quickly accessible there's more work to be done

Wild how if a government does this directly most folks agree its dystopian and flip out, but let companies do it and, even if it ends up in the governments hands, people install it themselves...

Not my experience, I've found it to worsen senior out output. Not sure if its laziness or what but the seniors around me using AI are outputing worse code than those who aren't.
