This isn't about coercion, which Haskell doesn't have. These error messages arise because of Haskell's choice that numeric literals should be polymorphic values with a typeclass constraint, meaning I can make those literals e

I never really learned screen because daemonised emacs sufficed for me. My daemon uptimes are normally the same as my system uptimes, with the one on my VPS currently at 77 days. A few years ago, I started using one daemon per project with

Sorry, I misunderstood what you were after. Ocaml exceptions are used more generally, and often make use of 2. For instance, the basic stream/iterator in Ocaml is Enum, which always uses an exception to signal when the stream has been

No data as such. But here's the first example in the "batteries included" list library: let modify_opt a f l = let rec aux p = function | [] -> (match f None with | None -> raise Ex

The Ocaml exception implementation is comparatively very performant, and so its exceptions are routinely used for control flow.

I love Haskell, but as far as GHC goes, its REPL story is awful: your environment doesn't even survive loading a new file! You can ask it to replay your bindings, but that's a pretty crappy solution, likely to produce unpredictabl

Static types assume no such cycle! Milner's MLs, which introduced the hugely influential simple type theory to functional programming in the late 70s, of which Ocaml and Haskell are derived, supported global type inference, and were ve

Monads in Haskell are an entire ecosystem, including wonderful things like Traversable and MTL style typeclasses, and I would need to see these ported before I could be convinced that Ocaml has monads (as anything more than a limited toy).

My excitement about IPFS is tempered by this issue: https://github.com/ipfs/go-ipfs/issues/3429 I was running IPFS on a VPS last year serving no content, and was consuming about half a gig a day in bandwidth.
