Which is funny because Ubuntu is also the only distro that wants you to install the Steam snap instead, which is then again unsupported.

Switching from and to desktop mode works exactly the same as on SteamOS, but if you are not setting up a handheld or HTPC, Bazzite also has regular KDE/GNOME desktop images, and even -dx images like Bluefin. I've been pretty happy

Not just flashing but also flickering, some headlights that I've seen in the wild look quite aggressive if they are in the periphery; dimming gone wrong? Anything that flickers or flashes will be brighter at peak than if it was a const

My understanding is that MacRuby relied on Apple's ill-fated attempts to migrate from reference counting to regular garbage collection. I would be surprised if GC still worked on modern arm64 macOS. RubyMotion later adopted ARC but the

I think I agree with what the grandparent poster wrote, and I'll try to expand on my reasoning. As a mildly paranoid user, I cannot possibly keep track all of all the individuals who maintain parts of Bluefin, no matter how much I like

Sadly, the new German government is comprised of two parties that have consistently voted for more surveillance. I'm afraid this time it's up to the courts to stop this.

For the same money, one can also get a laptop that has a nice display right from day one. The FW12 looks interesting, but if I'm hoping to buy an upgraded screen down the road, and a better CPU, a backlit keyboard, a better camera, and

Hah, my problem with ASUS is that they don't offer proper ISO keyboards in Europe. (Their left Shift key is short, but the Return key is wide.) I really don't know what they are doing with their keyboard layouts. And that's a

What would stop Apple's hypothetical "Objective-C without the C" from talking to existing Objective-C code? After all, Swift can use UIKit just fine. Even mixing C++ and ObjC is reasonably easy. In a sense, MacRuby was trying

Stuck in what way? It would have been easy for Apple to make an "Objective-C without the C", where it's still using message passing and the Foundation libraries, but without header files, raw pointers, and all the @messy @syn

Do you have a reference for this portal going away? I was really happy that work was being done in that area, and was optimistic that even Java apps might get sane file pickers in the future...sigh.

Another alternative would be to use threads more. But they are terrible in Discord, even worse than in Slack. When two Discord users are chit-chatting about their dogs all through the night, a mod should just drag-select all of these messag

Regarding dragging, macOS also has an "accessibility" option to drag with three fingers. (It used to be a regular trackpad setting.) It is a rather obscure feature, and yet it has such a dedicated following (me included) that a re

Everybody has different trackpad habits and they can be hard to put into words. For example, trackpads used to have buttons at the bottom, and you'd naturally use your fingers for pointing, and the thumb for clicking. Now the buttons a

Web-based apps definitely lose when you compare RAM use, and probably also when you look at the average app installation size. Spotify.app filling half a CD is absolutely bonkers. But these are also the easiest two metrics to measure, and t
