Not everyone. But it's enough for rural areas, which are the most expensive and least practical to serve with wires.

You have it exactly backwards. It is far less complex and expensive and resource intensive to build Starlink than to run a new copper or fiber line with associated telecom equipment on both sides to every rural residence in the US, let alon

The lifestyle you describe is very cheap and you can certainly afford it, if you wanted. There are plenty of rural small towns you could choose from. Why not do it if it's what you think you want?

If you want to control the software that runs on your phone, you can. You have to choose with your wallet, and buy a phone that gives you that freedom, such as the Pixel. Buying a locked down iPhone and then complaining about it is ineffect

Yes. I believe a small percentage of Apple users do this. Unfortunately that doesn't prevent Apple from reading your messages from the backups of the vast majority of people you correspond with.

You're thinking of Apple. WhatsApp backups are not stored by Meta. Apple is the company that breaks their "end-to-end" encryption by backing up the encryption keys to their own servers.

We should welcome more precise law enforcement. Imperfect enforcement is too easy for law enforcement officers to turn into selective enforcement. By choosing who to go after, law enforcement gets the unearned power to change the law howeve

The tradeoff might not be something unpleasant. For example, it might be that the immune system uses a lot more energy in this state, which would be bad for survival in the wild with limited resources but probably harmless or even beneficia

A world where AIs use APIs instead of UIs to do everything is a world where us humans will soon be helpless, as we'll have to ask the AIs to do everything for us and will have limited ability to observe and understand their work. I pre

IMO STT -> LLM -> TTS is a dead end. The future is end-to-end. I played with this two years ago and even made a demo you can install locally on a gaming GPU: https://github.com/jdarpinian/chirpy , but concluded th
