All of the returns described in the post would likely be tax-free. It's crazy that even most angel investors don't know this. https://www.investopedia.com/terms/q/qsbs-qualified-small-bu...

I always tell my startups to just send me a short monthly email containing 1) their growth-metric-of-choice 2) their cash/runway remaining, 3) anything fun they want to share (a new hire etc)... Then get back to growing the business! B

To those who asked: A smart contract runs with the predictability of code. Courts don't. In particular, arbitration clauses are often not upheld.

A notable advantage of smart contracts is the flexibility to choose your own arbiter in advance -- a "chair expert" perhaps.

So true. Dedication isn't a guarantee; it's more like table stakes. Maybe the trick is to be dedicated to an outcome, not a particular idea.

I think for every delicious side project that succeeds "in spite of itself" there are 10 side projects who don't fulfill their destiny of greatness -- because they're missing the dedication ingredient that most startups

The article makes it sound like a liquidation preference is some new phenomenon that explains the recent surge of ostensible $1B valuations. In fact this has been a standard deal term since the 90s.

'We still "Hang up" when we want to terminate a call, and this refers to the action of placing the receiver back onto the hook of a phone ...' oh my god. I'm old.

Fuzziness is a feature when you benefit and a bug when you get burned. I'd like an option with no ambiguity.

The example is pseudo-code and assumes a future with smart-property domain registrars. A better example might have been a smart contract trust which is 100% doable today. There are other examples under the Samples menu at etherscripter.com.

Smart contracts can define AND ENFORCE the transfer of smart property without intervention. The world of smart property today is limited to digital currency. But if you "skate where the puck is going" it's not hard to imagine

Can I suggest a different approach? Instead of dodging the question, put yourself in a position that you're happy to answer. "My last contract gig paid $100/hr. That's $200k yearly on an annual basis."

My 4 yr old daughter loves Robot Turtles. That anyone can say that is testament to its awesomeness. The board game format is part of the appeal and allows a kind of interaction (with you) that'd be missing on iPad. But check out code.o
