After a frustrating incident long ago where my domain was registered at the same place that hosted my site -- and the host went dark -- I never register my domain with the same company that hosts my site. I'm on WordPress.com Business

This has not been my experience at all. The more I publish, the more interaction I get. The more interaction, the more people keep reading (i.e., subscribe). But this is clearly the author's experience, and if I were him I'd be de

I use a Nuc as my main desktop machine and LOVE not having the giant box under my desk anymore. I'm thrilled that the line will continue, because I'd have another when it's time to replace this one.

This cartoon is available on DVD in better quality. It's worth finding those DVDs, as they show the sheer brilliance of the Fleischer studio, especially in the early days.

Sadness. Anchor Steam has always hard to find here in Indiana, but I knew a few bars that had it. Delicious stuff. I'll miss it.

It's time. But I have fond memories of this service, of which I was an early adopter. My sons and I were among the first to sign up for the disc we could insert into our Nintendo Wii and watch the early Netflix streaming service, too.

What bums me out about this is that the site will disappear. For people like me who collect cameras and review them online, DPReview is a gold mine of info on cameras from the digital age.

I've blogged for going on 16 years. I seek an audience, people who want to keep reading what I wrote, rather than virality. I write about a couple of niche topics plus personal essays and stories. The long tail of the Internet brings a

DX coding was a clever solution for sure. As a longtime camera collector and film photographer, however, I shake my fist at manufacturers who made cameras that could read only a few DX codes, e.g., 100 and 400, and for films with other DX c

I'm near Carmel too. I remember when the roundabouts started going in. They replaced four-way stops that backed up for miles at rush hour. The roundabouts made traffic flow SO much better. Now Carmel is replacing some stoplights with r

We had a set when I was a kid in the 70s in the US. I might still have it. We played it a lot. It wasn't a hard game, and it was a simple way to pass some hours. Lots of good family memories there.

I'm a Director of Software Engineering today, but early in my career I was a technical writer. The #1 most important thing imho is know your audience. Who are you writing for? What do you know about them, or what can you reasonably suc

I have a blog in which I publish six days a week, plus a newsletter I publish once a month. Some people prefer (and subscribe to) one over the other for various reasons. A multichannel strategy just lets me reach more people who are interes

I've worked at a couple companies with holiday shutdowns. What I've learned is to enjoy them while they last, because they always end.

Good point about the Amiga. Someone else here commented on Xerox PARC. So yes, there was UX design. However, in so many companies like the one I worked for in the story, it was utterly ignored.

I have collected film cameras since 1976. The golden era for buying old film cameras was about 2005-2015 -- great gear could be had for next to nothing. Since 2015, prices have been on the rise and the hobby is notably more expensive now. B
