This was my one of my main justifications for making this design choice, in addition to the (in my opinion) overwhelming amount of break statements that would result from using switches. But more importantly, many of the "if" stat

Whenever Sixel comes up, I always think about this guy who wrote terminal patches that allowed for Sixel support, as well as a library (libsixel) that generates them: https://github.com/saitoha A couple years ago, it seemed

This is really cool. I've been looking for a high quality (Textmate-based) syntax highlighter for rendering source code on a poster. It would be great to integrate this library with ctags or something in order to perform accurate seman

You're right about it being up to the compiler if the conditions don't have side-effects. The C++ standard's "as-if" rule[1] allows these kinds of transformations if they do not effect the "observable behavior&

Musl libc also does this for threads, spinning 100 times by default before switching to a heavier system wait (see line 71): https://git.musl-libc.org/cgit/musl/tree/src/thread/pthread_...

I took Fundies 1 at NEU last year, but I came in with a good amount of programming experience. I appreciated it because it forced me to think in a new programming paradigm (functional) but for a lot of my classmates who were beginners it wa

This reminds me a lot of the engine simulators people would make in the sandbox gamemode for Garry's Mod. When I was first getting into coding I used the Expression 2 programming language (basically a scripting language implemented in

SmarterEveryDay recently made a video[1] touring Holley's factory. Pretty interesting stuff. The manufacturing process is fairly complex and elaborate. [1] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_hFKRDDP_o

I recently brought up a Windows 10 VM and a couple Debian, FreeBSD, and OpenBSD VMs to test building C software on multiple platforms and toolchains. It's notoriously hard to run MSVC on non-Windows platforms, especially my M1 Mac, so

I go to college in Boston and was housed around Berklee, and I also agree that the billboard (recently removed, IIRC) was in pretty bad taste. I agree that we're missing the point here, but more so because messaging like that only seem

The arena design pattern is something I'm using a lot for a project in C. Like Rust, the primary reason it's attractive to use is because of how it plays well with memory safety. Although I'm no Rust expert, I suspect that it

Just because I was curious, I did a little digging: A cursory look at Sean Barrett's website on the Internet Archive lists Dec. 2006 as the first date where stb_image was published (but looking at the file, versions go back much furthe

Not entirely related to the subject of OpenGL, but I really like how the author has decided to lay out this project. It's pretty hard to beat the convenience of a single header (or single header/single source) distribution for C l

It's worth noting that Micro Magic's design tools are likely what allowed them to claim these numbers. Some of the claims they make about their software are pretty impressive, but it mainly boils down to intelligent placing/r
