I can tell instantly from the poor spacing of the justified text. Word makes obviously poor choices that TeX would not. Word could use the same algorithm used by TeX. I have read that the codebase for Word includes a significant amount of l

Dark matter (LCDM) solves some problems and creates others, just like modified gravity theories solve some problems and create others. Hopefully more experimental data will lead to an answer.

Although I suspect the authors were being tongue in cheek, I think there are spot on with the older generation falling into familiar patterns and the younger generation rejecting that in their own ways.

The diagnosis may be very important. Recent studies are showing evidence that early (age) interventions offer effective therapies that lose effectiveness if started at older ages.

This analogy is confusing because it is incorrect in some fundamental ways. You aren't just opening a box and seeing one or the other color. The measurement itself determines a role in the outcome that you couldn't predict in adva

I think you are missing the main thrust of the book. He is not trying to convince you that em-based AI is the likely future. He chose the less examined possibility as a starting point, but the main part of the book is to enumerate the predi

A nervous public will demand that organic robots be given an arbitrarily short lifespan as a failsafe. Say four years. And those robots would also be restricted to working in outer space because it would be too hard to control robots indis

When I used this code for a simple application, I made a small change to the recognized to limit the rotational invariance so that a gesture that was rotated more than a certain angle threshold would not match.

No the idea is pretty simple. You give entangled particles to Alice and Bob who are a non-trivial distance away from each other. Alice performs an operation to send a bit of information to Bob via the entangled property. Bob still gets rand

You are confusing two different concepts. Splitting the coin into two faces amounts to collapse of the wave function into physical observables. The two halves have been determined. The idea with Bell Inequalities is that if Alice and Bob ar

I took his meaning to be that appealing to peer reviewed journals as an "authority" is what is wrong. The value of the peer review system is the rigorous process and the continuing search for the truth.

Your question is backwards. ISPs can choose this option to save themselves money. I suspect that the real reason that ISPs like Verizon are resisting, is that with open connect in place there would be nowhere left to hide and blame the inte

Just to be clear, gravity waves have already been indirectly observed and the discovery led to the 1993 Nobel Prize in Physics. BICEP2 is looking for B-mode polarization on large scales in the CMB because it is believed that gravity waves c
